Are you guys still doing the stainless clamp for this generation? If so, are you doing on both sides?

I remember doing so with the 2nd generation Taco. Just picked up a 3rd generation last night. I am aware that this generation has the key lock.

I skipped that whole thing and rigged a actuator to lock/unlock the tailgate with my key fob.. similar to the pop and lock but cheaper =)
There's quite a few write ups on how to do it on here

Yes most are still doing the hose clam, although there is a new product that came out. It's a keyed lock that fits over it. I just do the one side.

Yep, including the head pointing down. You only need one side since the left side is a solid cup.

Very easy mod to do btw and you won't have to mess around with that stupid little key anymore

Hoseclamp mod is a joke- you can break it off with a screwdriver in less than 10 seconds (try it!). I ended up putting washers over the eyeholes on the cable stays and a Sabellco lock on mine.

I did that too last time and put some epoxy on the area. Had bought a padlock thing but it seized up after many years with my first Tacoma.

Only have to do the passenger side as the drivers side is a full cup. I'm using the sabellco locking piece shown above. Easy install and it should stop someone from quickly walking off with the tailgate. I also always keep the tailgate locked and a piece of tape over the key opening in the sabellco lock to keep dirt out of the tumblers.

True for the cheaper ones. Stainless is a better deterrent.

Try it- I had a good stainless until my friend took it off in a bet.

They snap between the thread holes easy peasy.

Putting washer over the cable eyes slows things down too. A screwdriver cant take those off easily unless its the right Torx head.

I resisted doing that one since I thought about maybe taking the gate off someday. I liked that it was somewhat easy with the deterrent of the clamp. Now, I installed the seals. So, taking it off will be costly. I should get around to those washers.

Sabellco lock. Didn't want to deal with electrics (pop and lock) and wanted something more secure (and elegant) than a hose clamp.
