Fog light wiring question

Hello all
First of all, sorry for creating another thread about this. I found it earlier and now I can't find the same thread again after searching a few places.
Anyway, I just bought a cheap set of fog lights and was wiring them up when i found the thread on here about using a fuse tap to power them. My question is, if the fuse slot is only powered with the ignition on, do I still need the relay? I suppose this sounds stupid but it made sense to me, it seemed kind of redundant to use both. Thanks

It depends on the rating of the fuse you're tapping. Don't exceed its reting(tapped circuit load+fog lights=less than fused circuit). If the switch you are using can handle the amps of the entire circuit, you don't need a relay at all.
Don't put in a bigger fuse either. You'll fry the wires/truck sooner or later.

The fuse you're tapping is likely just a "control" signal. The relay will handle the amps for the lights. I'd recommend using a relay...redundant relays are ok and typical practice. It's safer than exceeding the current capability of the existing wire.

 

+1 I tapped into one of the low beam fuses. I think it was 10 amp. Very good advice to use the relay.
