    #$*(&U(*&#@)#($U&*()@#*$_)#@($)@#

I'm doing the 4x4 switch light up right. Well I apparently cant' solder for shit. I'd be happy if it just fucking suck to the plate.

Sorry just slightly pissed after spending the last 1.5 fucking hours trying to do this.

Uh... is this normal for a solder gun to be on for less than about 4 seconds... brand new out of the package and didn't even get hot enough to melt the solder yet...

It can take a while to get hot enough to melt it. If you want, You can bring your truck over to my place, and we can solder it here.....though I have no garage....

Well I had the cheap pos harbor freight one on for like 2 hours and it still wouldn't cut it, eventually it'd break through but it just wasn't working. So I picked up this weller... but honestly I don't think the tip is supposed to melt like that in 4 seconds... shouldn't even change should it? Just hooked up to normal 110, actually doing it in my bathroom on the GFCI circuit and it didn't trip or anything. I'm just confused and wondering if I should exchange it...

I do appreciate the offer but I refuse to let it defeat me lol...

did you sand and clean the tips? that helps to transfer heat.
    are you using any flux?

lol I only tapped the solder to it for about 1/3 a second if that, and only on the tip... didn't seem to even phase the solder itself either. I think I'll go exchange it lol...

No didn't use any flux I can try that though but I've never had an issue not doing it with little stuff like this. It's only to power a few led's on the 4x4 switch lol....

the tips are normally made of copper or brass. they are better conductors than aluminum.

Yea, guess it's a case of "get what you pay for" lol... I figured it'd have to at least be better than the harbor freight one that couldn't get up to temp for crap...

Finally lmao. Todays lesson: Stop buying cheap crap! With the new (granted it's cheap but not harbor freight cheap) $12 weller that didn't fry itself... done in like 5min. lol.

Gah Chris locked the drafting thread but I thought of something I wanted to throw in there. I was watching this asshat driving about 2 car lengths behind a semi doing the same crap in his beamer.... well the truck ran over a blown tire and threw it directly into his windshield. It not only shattered and caved the windshield in almost one foot on the pass side, it also caved the roof in about a half a foot and messed up his hood. What impressed me most though, the guy didn't even tap his brakes or miss a beat... just kept going and stayed the same distance as usual like nothing even happened. Might have cost almost 10k of damage to his beamer, but he got 33mpg that run!
