I see there's no A-Trac button in my truck. Which of the MTS modes is equivalent to the old A-Trac logic? "Rock"?

Those systems are completely different, check this https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-traction-control-modes-explained.530695/

A simple example of how they are different will be going downhill in 4LO, where ATRAC will not lock wheels while MTS will control each wheel.

MTS also runs throttle for you, while with ATRAC you control it (2nd gens and manuals)

A good way to test and see what's the closest to my ATRAC will be going to Ardbeg this spring :burnrubber:

^MTS runs throttle for you? I thought that was Crawl Control?

Yeah, you are right, I keep forgetting how many options that system has. There is MTS and Crawl Control switch. The first point (braking) still stands true.

^I did the whole Ardbeg South Trail 10-hour ordeal in 2017 with A-Trac and locked rear. Did not experience wheelspin even once. I suspect A-Trac is similar to MTS in "Rock". I'm more interested to see how well MTS does in deep snow. :)

If I remember correctly in the manual, Toyota does not recommend to use rear locker, unless it is a complete emergency. Having ATRAC or MTS activated will simulate lockers by detecting & applying breaks to a spinning wheel and not putting stress on axle shafts/CVs.

I've been known to engage the locker before I air down my tires. As long as you are not on dry tarmac, the inside rear wheel will slip as needed. I prefer the smoothness of the locker vs A-Trac.

I absolutely love them. If they didn't sell so high on the used market I would consider one for a trail/weekend rig

    Wrong .
Mts just does what atrac did limiting wheel s slip locking brakes etc .Just can be adjusted for more slip or less.
    Crawl control controls throttle.

@KenLyns don't listen to the one that drives manual that he thinks makes it so much more superior that he must shun anyone who doesn't drive manual while he sticks the shifter in his ass

For what it's worth where his atrac failed and he'd continually stall my mts on Rock setting did great lol.

You can hear the abs kicking in when in the setting and you'll hear it more and more depending on which setting you're in.

Once engaged, the locker on Tacos can go up to whatever top speed the truck is capable of in 4Lo (~70 km/h?). Not that there's any real application for this.

Does your front diff have an aluminum case, or an iron case like the H3T?

    :amen:

Yea, I have had no problem running my locker for extended periods of time at 30km/h in the snow earlier in the winter season when I was spamming those videos :cookiemonster:

In just 4lo the truck would struggled to go straight and keep speed. Engage the locker and it just changes the trucks ability to handle deeper snow.

^Pffft even the Yaris comes with that feature, along with Auto LSD.

We are not quite at Range Rover's level of stupidity yet, where you can control throttle and steering with your phone. Be your own spotter...
