App for truck stats?

what apps are available on iOS for this? Mostly interested in accurate engine temp but I’m sure I’d find other info useful / interesting.

Does one need additional hardware or can these communicate via Bluetooth?

I’m use with iOS (also has Toyota expanded info available) and KIWI reader over WiFi connection... many options, just read the website completely to verify best configuration for your hardware. Below example of custom dashboard that I use for towing:

I’m using the PLX Kiwi 3, a little pricey but was selectable by make/model in the software and has been excellent so far (stays connected during drive). Can be left in the vehicle OBD port full time without issue as well, see below:

I’m assuming based on that info that these issues are present with other adapters...

That’s not a bad price to me. Wondering why some the others are so cheap. I def want to stay connected when driving and leaving permanently attached is also an important feature.

 

There are a few folks on here that use more of a generic/basic reader and have reported no issues... but I recommend a WiFi version with iOS. This YouTube search may assist with some reader decisions as well... good info on the software product, I’m extremely happy with both the hardware and software (don’t forget to get the Toyota specific in app add on, it’s like another $20 I believe).

Do you actually get a reading for the oil temp?

 

Yes... you can find that pid in the Toyota specific section (in app purchase)

 

You guys must be made of money. I can't believe anyone would spend 90 dollars on a wifi dongle that you can get for less than 10-15. These all come from the same factory.

Can you show a screen shot of your engine oil temp with a reading and not matching any other temperatures? The Torque devs could never get a reading from the Engine Oil PID

I only mention the dongle because when I got mine, there were a lot of people saying that many of the cheap bluetooths didn't pair properly with their iPhone/iPad, and this one does... I opted to spend a little bit more for peace of mind. My information is about a year old, so I'm not sure if the cheapo OBDII dongles are better nowadays.

This is what I’m talking about. There are cheaper options but why are they cheaper? I don’t care about a fancy housing or graphic or cool lights. Actually I’d rather not have that stuff so as to not attract the attention of anyone who might want to break in. What I do want is function.

 

Amazon has OBD2 WiFi readers starting at less than $10... may work, may not... I just bought a low profile unit that I knew would absolutely work with various apps, including Fusion. Simple as that.... by the way, PLX devices just release Kiwi 4 (only $150 on sale) -lol
