I don't have sliders, but I also did not notice a difference after adding full skids. 2mpg loss seems pretty excessive for what should be about the weight of an extra passenger...

Tell me about it, but when you are commuting in stop and go it makes a difference. I initially thought the same thing until I did an A/B test

No way. So with this logic, when I have my wife (130) pounds in the truck I should expect 2mpg loss?

Perhaps, commuting in traffic. I didn’t think it would make a difference either. Could be a placebo effect but when I drove my route without them for a week I got better mpg (realistically 1-2mpg)

I’m not taking this bastards off again. What a PIA

I found as I added weight to mine (over 400lbs now) the trick to better economy was slightly faster acceleration but that is quickly negated in stop and go especially if unable to coast between lights. My trip to work varies from 16-21 mpg depending on traffic and light timing. That feels like large variability in a 12 mile trip.

I’ve probably studied fluid dynamics more than most non-engineers. It seems to me that in a normally aspirated engine any exhaust flow enhancements will only have noticeable effects at high rpms. There is also only so much that can be done with cat back systems. You are also fighting the computer’s valve timing.

A reroute for clearance has some merit but for power off the line it just isn’t going to make any significant difference.

Yea I don’t see moving a pipe is gonna make any difference to flow. I’ve got a shell, dclb mobtown sliders and ifs skid full prinsu rack and 255/85r16 cooper max. Was gettin 16-17. Got an oil change and now I’m 18-20 mpg. Once you get rolling the weight helps create velocity right?

Your right, moving the pipe would probably make very little difference. However, a heavier vehicle isn’t going to “create” velocity. It will help maintain it, but the loss in aerodynamics from those same mods will likely negate that kinetic energy.

Either way, it’s probably pointless to discuss because there’s too many factors and keyboard warriors like me that don’t know what they are talking about to really ever figure it out.

That is my opinion as well. I would think that those welds would rust immediately. I really want this done, as I bet mine won't make it through spring intact. Really stupid design. But man, I'm not a professional welder, but I wouldn't try to weld stainless to mild steel. Anyone have pics after a year or two? That URD seems way over priced for a mid-pipe without cats. $600 plus shipping for a y-pipe??? Also like the idea of removing rear cats. Have had the fronts grenade into the secondary before on another vehicle and stop up the exhaust.

This looks like the option I would like best. How come more people aren't doing it this way?

Never even thought about that way, only reason I could think is less air/cooling space between it and the xfer case

Got my exhaust rerouted yesterday to accommodate the Mobtown skids we installed. My buddy rerouted it differently than most exhaust shops. A little more labor, but much cleaner and not in the way of the transfer case.

many are. you just need an exhaust man looking at everything under there, not just the exhaust pipes.

The duller, grayer pipe looks like stainless to me -- when new, aluminized steel is a lot more reflective and silvery.

It's about being a craftsman not just a "muffler dude". This is the way we should all perform our occupation, the best we can. When I work at his house I hold the same standard for quality in my services.

There's already a factory heat shield mounted on the bottom of the transfer case. We have no concern.

I'm not sure what he coated it with, after he had it roughed in, he removed the small catalytic conv. And welded everything up on the bench. Than painted it and reinstalled, then welded the bracket and touch up paint.

He did an even nicer job welding up my Caliraised sliders.
It's a blessing having good friends.
    God Is Good.
