    Hahaha.

Let me toot that horn again for ya.

I must’ve also missed the off-road skills class while I was with the King County High Angle Rescue team.

But I wasn’t fishing. I think I was with a medical team in a remote village in Southeast Asia at the time. Trying to provide basic medical care.

You can always start with a bed tent and work you way up to the RTT. PA has a ton of state parks with great views, trails and campsites.

Honestly, because you're so prepared and get stuck all the fucking time I'd say you've got the equipment on you to break 3 different methods of recovery and still get out.

    @Armyhater458

IMO gear and things you need come from experiences. That’s the cheapest way to do that. We’ll go out for a few days and realize I wish we had a better way to carry water, or a place for trash. On a summer trip last year I decided I needed a better cooler because our cooler was all warm water after a day (sitting in the shade).

Seeing what you need or what can be improved upon after going on some trips will help from buying the same item twice.

This is mainly for camping gear, because things like a tire patch kit, tow strap, traction boards, D rings, all could be considered necessary. Winch is on there too but I still dont have one lol but it’s on the short list

The tradition concept is great. It’s my own tradition I seek out of state camping every year for my Bday. I did Vermont, Maine, cross country trip was in Utah for my Bday, Virginia, and this year will be beach camping in North Carolina. I’ve always brought my wife and looking forward to taking my daughter (10 months now) on adventures. She has already camped Vermont when she was 6 months old

She will be beach camping NC at 14 months. With good weather 3 is a great age for camping. At least in Pa your state parks are better than New Jersey.. Get out on some short weekend trips with the kid and y’all will have a blast! Figure out what you need for comforts than set up a long trip.

If you have any particular questions or want opinions of one setup over another ask away. If you generalize “what do I need to overland” you’ll get a wide variety of answeres.

What do you have for your big kayak? Old Town Predator? I have a Field and Stream Shadow Caster. For the price I am pretty happy with it, but need to get to modding it as well.

Actually, my cheap Smittybilt winch shouldn't fail me.

I use the rest of my recovery gear to help others 99% of the time.

That looks like a good time. We're planning on the Smokey Mountains in TN for July. I've been pushing my family for 8 yrs to do a trip like this and it's finally going to happen. We were looking into NC beaches as well. That'll probably be next year.

omfg that baby camp chair might be the cutest thing i've ever seen. Also, IMO a collapsible step stool is a must if you have a lifted truck. makes it way easier to get into the bed lol

Love that you have this tradition with your family! My girlfriend has a 9year old girl and its taking some time (being persistent!!) on getting her into the wilderness and forage with me; I did get lucky when she took like a fish to water when I got my Celestron Telescope out and showed her some constellations!

Hey Liz - last year I helped rebuild a local town Community Health Clinic in Puerto Rico that was destroyed by Hurricane Maria.

Coming up next is a rebuilding effort in Myanmar? You want in?
Head's up though. It's touch and go right now because all the political crap going on.

My 8 yr old is girly as can be and not big on outdoors although I push her out whenever I can. I've got a cabin for out next trip for the second half of the week. We're going to compromise on this trip.

Wow what a set up!! I'm kind of a minimalist because I hate spending hours tearing down camp. My wife on the other hand no longer appreciates the simple life. She would want a water port and other creature comforts. Hopefully she goes back to when we were 16-17 and survived with a tent and cooler. Obviously I would want a little better set up than just that, but I also don't want to get too complicated or packed down.

Like you said, take a couple short trips and dial in a specific set up that works.
