Found my problem. I shorted a wire to my secondary rear camera's switch. Grounded it out even. All is well now. Finally had time to diagnose. Now I just need to properly mount the camera in the bed (under my Diamondback Tonneau Cover. I also want to put a waterproof box or hide it in the driver side cubby hole in the bed of the truck so that it can be disconnected easily when I need to remove the cover. I just need to educate myself on how to wire/solder audio cables so I can run it through an aftermarket plug instead of the standard yellow video cable plug.

The aftermarket plug will have both the video signal and the power for the camera.

Below are picks of the short and the secondary switch location. This mod functions normally if the secondary switch is in the off position, but if it is in the on position and the rear camera is selected from the DPDT switch that is installed for this mod, the secondary rear camera overrides the rear camera.

I want the secondary rear camera installed far enough inside the bed that it can monitor any load I am carrying under the tonneau or for cases when I'm driving with the tailgate down.

Yeah, he's pretty awesome. Replied quickly via email when I had setup questions as well. Seems like he's on his game with customer service.

Here is a temporary schematic I sketched up. I'll write a more detailed version later with a prettier layout.

Basically, I added another relay (purchasable from Brian at https://www.anytimebackupcamera.com/ ) . All the "G"s that are circled just mean the black from each device is grounded. And stuff like Y/R or O/B seen next to the video cables was my way of labeling them with color coded electrical tape. This is just in case I needed to ever disconnect them I'd know which cable went where.

The rear camera is turned on "anytime" if there is power from the DPDT switch (Rear Camera Selected). If, however, the secondary SPST switch I installed is "On", power continues to the second relay and overrides the rear camera with the signal from the secondary rear camera.

    Hope that makes sense.

For front end clearance, I like having the camera mounted high enough that a bit of the license plate bracket and bumper are visible at the bottom of the image, similar to the factory rear view. That way I can tell exactly when the nose of the vehicle is about to touch something or when it's exactly lined up with the parking space's front line. If you mount a camera to the license plate, you'd have to rely entirely on the camera's guide lines. Based on the one I used (not the same one as the one you link to), I would not trust its guide lines to be of any real use.

Dude! This is badass! What cameras are you using for the front and secondary? I don't have a tonneau cover, but was thinking about maybe running a secondary camera on a plate mount. ‍

I have mine set so the top of the front bumper is visible along the bottom of the screen just for that reason. The lines on the rear camera are just an inch or two outside the wheels but the the front camera being mounted lower the calibration would be different. I'd think it wouldn't be too hard to get a feel for them after seeing how they compare next to a curb.

I'm using the TopTier Pro listed at the bottom of the page in the links. Fair enough camera.

Hard part is because i want the secondary rear camera to be temporary so i can remove when i remove the tonneau. Might be able to work on this some Sunday, but I'll be coming back from camping. Work and life getting in the way of mods...lol.

I've finished my install...pics and install notes to come, but i need some opinions from owners of other cameras.

My cameras can get whited out when they are in a darker area and looking out into a brighter. Or they just get overloaded from road glare.

Any suggestions on a better quality camera that handles bright lights?

Tested my setup today hauling a couple sheets of plywood. Nice piece of mind seing how it rode. I just couldn't see anything outside/ past the tailgate due to the glare.

Just pre-ordered my anytime kit bundled with the switch and camera. Hope I'm happy with the camera. Still need to order the cubby switch panel from forty2skates via shapeways. Also need too find a plain switch the same size as anytime's front/rear switch to use as a navigation override.

Not trying to hijack thread... just wanted to provide an alternative install for those who are minimalist and don’t wish to add camera switches with mismatch light colors (or do extra work). I installed the car-solutions system, with a simple front camera that is totally plug and play. This system uses the mode button to activate (double tap), and the up/down arrow keys to select the desired camera... works great, no extra switches/buttons required.

    System installed https://car-solutions.com/en/rfcc-ttg2-car-camera-control-system-for-toyota-touch-2-entune.php

That’s a good solution. Nice write up. I looked at this type of option but I’ll tell you why I chose not to go with it. It’s a software based version that depends on the command module communicating with the head unit, whereas the anytime unit hijacks the actual feed and switches via a relay. Relays are reliable, cheap, and easy to swap out. I had an override unit for my Suburban LTZ and at another point a boxed command unit for my Mercedes E350’s fiber optic MOST system and both developed bugs when the dealership would service the car and update firmware on the head units. Both companies weren’t around a couple years later to update the unit, so I tend to avoid them now. Hopefully car solutions has a future track record that is helpful 5-10 years down the line. Thanks for sharing!

As a hobby I fly RC planes that move along at about 100-120mph and have FPVed (first person view) some of them. The cameras they use are awesome and can handle a much wider range of lights and colors, with TVL’s in the thousands depending on price. You could check out getfpv and find some decent options. They won’t be $13 though :)

    Maui, Hi
Can anyone running an aftermarket rocker switch provide some insight please. With the factory style switchfrom anytimebackup camera people are reporting the rear camera flashes for a second when switching from “front” to“off”. Does this still occur with an aftermarket rocker switchlike AOB?
    Thanks

Yes it happens, although i barely notice anymore. Something about the relay is not fast enough to switch back and forth. Normal and nothing to be concerned about

I agree, I don’t notice it either. And by flash we mean it shows an image and it’s gone very fast, probably cuz our retinas still have the image burned in :)

Mine very briefly shows the feed from the rear view camera after switching off the front.

Why not just tuck a switch behind the radio that has been left on for the override?
