No problem, most of the better converters will have a signal detection option to use for the remote on the amp so you don’t even have to pull the dash in your case.

Ok sorry, a couple more questions. The remote wire that runs from the sub to the head unit... you can have a wireless one? Could you explain how that wire works and why I wouldn't have to pull the dash case? Thanks

I have never wired a sub before but I think I understand the basis. Wire from sub to battery, wire to ground, wire to head unit, and wire to amp. Correct?

The remote wire is simply to turn the amp on when the deck comes on. You will run a positive battery connection and a chassis ground to the amp and the remote. You will need the coverter I talked about to get the signal correct for the new amp and a good converter will have a feature built in that will sense when the deck is delivering signal and will give you a provision to run a wire to your amp to turn it on as well.

You will use the current signal wire to your sub now, battery, ground, and remote. The wire running to your current amp will be what gets signal from your deck to the new amp.

So if I bought that converter would I have to run the remote wire at all?

Just from the converter to the amp.

Yes that is correct. How do you run a wire if it is built in? Its simply just one plugin at the bottom of the woofer.

That is the one you need. Should be a two conductor signal wire. It will go to the converter.

You might want to get on crutchfields YouTube and start studying.

Would it just be easier to just forget the stock sub and just wire a whole brand new one or should I try using the pre existing wiring with the converter and that would be easier? Thanks

Unless you replace the deck, the converter is the only way. A new deck with preamp outputs would change everything though.

Aux back up lights, Bed lights, Re-located trailer plug, Good dooby, a.k.a. jumper cable mod, Heated seats, back up camera,
Always put a shorting resistor across a cap... Or, short them out with a screw driver.

Line out converter with a remote signal detection
    RCA cables
    Amp
    Sub
    Box
    Speaker wire amp to sub
Power and ground wire to amp
Remote wire from coverter to amp

Seriously though, spend some time reading the articles on crutchfield.com and maybe watch some videos before you try it. It can be learned, hell I learned it before the internet lol.

Ok it's me again... I was doing some research on TW looking on how to retain the factory head unit while adding an amp. People said that you can add an add a converter that adds RCA's to your stock head unit to run an amp. Would I be able to do this with my Tacoma? Here's the thread explaining it.
