Extended warranty

Its not based on the price of the vehicle but the vehicle itself, so if you have a TRD OR vs an SR or Corolla, you have more components that need covered, etc. etc.

 

To my understanding you have until 36k miles or 3 years to purchase extended warranty. Someone correct me if I’m wrong though.

Isn’t the power train 50k? That’s the impression I’ve been under since I got the truck. The dealer told me I have power train warranty until then but I take everything the dealer says as a grain of salt.

 

I think it’s 5 years 60k miles. Don’t have the manual to look

 

The Limited is not really any more electronic than a Pro or Off Road

I'm not comparing at all. That's what I'm pointing out.... that it would make sense that extended warranty be higher priced for a Limited compared to SR.

It’s a third party warranty that the dealer prefers over Toyota. 0 deductible, bumper to bumper

 

All extended warranties are rip-offs. Unless you can't do basic math, then they are a great "investments" and totally worth it--and you'll be able to justify it somehow.

 

Had a bmw that I got an extended warranty for. I paid 2100 for the warranty, I ended up having over 10K in repairs. Probably closer to 15k. So I guess I got ripped off?

My 07 has 194,000 miles on it. I've spent about $500 on non warranty repairs, all after the truck had over 150,000 miles on it. In the 45 years I've been driving I've never spent enough on repairs on any vehicle to cover the cost of a warranty. Keep in mind that a $5000 repair at the dealership can usually be done by an independent mechanic for $2000-$2500. My advice is to save the money and find an independent mechanic to do any work if it is needed. In some rare cases you come out ahead. But over a lifetime you'll spend far more paying for the warranty than you'd pay for repairs. They don't sell stuff, including warranties, unless they plan to make more than they spend. And all dealerships make most of the profit in the service dept, not the sales dept.

 

If you go with a warranty its up to you.
I would not get anything but a Toyota warranty if u do buy.
If you are on the road some where and have problems my guess would be its alot easier to find a Toyo dealer than trying to get a shop to cover needed repairs through unknown warr co.
As others have said if u shop around could prob get a deal on one.

 

Vehicles today are a bit more complex today though, push button start, heated seats, sunroofs, crawl control, blind spot monitors, backup cameras, multiple sensors, and computers. If you can get a decent price on one I see no harm in purchasing one.

 

Lol at an extended warranty on a Toyota. Put that money into an investment and in the extremely rare chance you need it you'll have it. Financing an extended warranty is a horrible decision.
