Brake Upgrade: StopTech Rotors + TRD Performance Pads

I tried to order a new X but 5 dealers here in the Phoenix area refused to order one even if I paid all up front. They all told me I could back out and they would be stuck with a truck they couldn't sale! I even call Toyota and they told me they have no control over privately owned dealerships. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
No wonder the X died! Plus people can't drive sticks anymore.
My wife is a high school teacher and she drives an MX-5/Miata with a manual. The school needed her car moved. She was working on grades, so she asked her senior class would someone like to move my car for me? All 34 kids raised their hands then she asked who can drive a manual transmission. NOT one kid could drive a stick. Just

FYI, these are not drilled cross-drilled) rotors, just slotted.

 

How are you liking these rotors? I am wanting to get these for my 2012. Do you think they're worth it? Or do you think you should've gone with the StopTech rotors?

 

I love them for the time i had driving the truck. Drove it about 3 weeks before moving to Kuwait for 12+ months. Initial bite was indescribable. For me well worth it, i sourced the DBAs from summit racing. Did alot of digging to find the PN#. Make sure they fit. Had a local Toyota shop do the install cause i was tied up getting ready for my departure to Kuwait.

 

How can you tell that they are not drilled? Hmm...after looking at some photos I think you are right...gotta check lol

If it’s the ones you posted on this thread, they’re just slotted rotors cheap cross drilled rotors usually don’t last long unless you go with a big brake kit

I’ve got a small collection.

 

Im running Stoptech Slotted non cryo treated rotors with Hawk HPS pads. Night and day difference from my old worn out factory brakes. Very firm pedal and excellent stopping distance. Highly recommended for anyone looking to do a slight upgrade over factory parts.

 

Probably going to be adding this to my list of things to do. My brakes suck

 

It's worth it! Saved me from a few mindless drivers already... Tint and brakes are the only mods I really need

 

So slightly off topic but still on the topic of brakes...I changed brake pads on my work van today, found this groove in the back side of the rotor. It’s not very deep, feels just like the grooves of the rim of a quarter. Change, resurface or leave alone? Rotors and pads were changed about 25-30k ago

The pad that was on that side showed a spot where it was grounded down more than the rest where the groove in the rotor would be

My truck is has incredibly touchy brakes when you first touch the pedal but then has pretty decent braking performance. Does anyone else have that touchiness on their truck? Does this upgrade change any bit of that feel?

 

Did you put them on? Because a mark like that, perpendicular to the rotor rotation is almost guaranteed to not happen during operation. AKA I would question the installer. I would replace both. That looks too deep to be resurfaced, and you are just going to chew up pads.

You likely have an Off Road or Pro. These trucks have electronically boosted brakes that are stronger and seem super touchy. This mod will not reduce that. What does make a big difference there is going to a slightly larger tire, even a 265/75/R16 or 265/70/R17. Though you want to keep tire weight down, so be sure to look for C-load tires.
