I didn't think this was possible...I tried, thought I didn't try leaving them in the tailgate. I did purposely lock the doors and closed them with the FOB inside. After 1-2 seconds the doors automatically unlocked. I was so amused by this, I did it another 10 times to show everyone who was around the job site.

while fishing/hunting/ATVing , i lock my fob in the box. I take the key with me. locked myself out of a car many many years ago and this is the first vehicle i don't have a spare key i can put in my wallet. I'm hyper vigilant to avoid another lockout.

If you have a smart module add on to our remote starter, you could've used your phone to unlock and go on with your day...unless of course you put your phone down too inside the bed!

Can you send a link for that? I had looked into something similar but my truck couldn't use it. I think it was something that was built in to some trucks but not mine. TIA.

So there is a setting to disable the "re-lock after 30 seconds if a door is not opened" feature??

Do you have a cap or something on your bed? I'm thinking if I left my keys in my bed and closed my tailgate that I would just reach in. I'm assuming that this is something to do with your pop and lock that because it isn't an OEM device. I know as other have stated that if you leave your keys inside the cab that you can't lock it with the button. Maybe you need to extend that proximity sensor to your bed.

Yes, there is a tonneau cover over the bed. I was dumb enough to leave my fob in the bed but not dumb enough to not reach in and grab it if there weren't a tonneau cover. If you have insight into how to extend the proximity cover to the bed, I'm all ears.

In thinking about this for a minute, it may be that you want to tie into the switch on your door that detects when it is open and add a switch on your tailgate. The reason I say that is that when you unlock your doors, if you don't open in a specified amount of time, it relocks. That is probably what happened to you. If you put a similar switch on your tailgate, when you drop it, it would see it as a door opening. In theory, it should be as simple as tapping a switch in your door, but it rarely works like that. The other option which I think you can do through techstream is disable the auto relock feature. If you can't disable it, at least you can set it to the longest interval.

What trim do you have? And do you have push to start, or hkey? There are links in my signature but I can also link you some specific product for your actual vehicle that hundreds on this forum are already using. Let me know!

I don't want to disable the relock. If anything, I'd want it to automatically lock my doors when the fob isn't close in case I were to forget to lock my truck.

The pop & lock is tied into 2 wires on the passenger side that signal the doors to lock and unlock which works the pop & lock too. If I could use those wires, that would be awesome but not sure it'd work.

The more I think about it, I could connect a normally open plunge switch that would open the pop & lock circuit so it wouldn't relock while the tailgate is down. I guess if I closed the tailgate at the exact time the timer relocked the truck, I'd have the original problem. IDK.

I'm working on a small invention you might be interested in actually...not out yet.

    Independent Pop 'n' Lock Control

Prototyping now, testing spring, out likely summer, no definitive word yet. Sounds like you're the perfect first customer!

But in the mean time, your idea is a good one, but now you run the potential of forgetting to lock your tailgate after the vehicle auto-locks the rest of itself along with the bad timing issue that brings you to square one as you mentioned. You can have a redundancy circuit where you use a pin switch/plunger as mentioned, PM me your address, I'll send you one for free, but then as an "or" statement or wired in parallel- go get a small waterproof rocker/toggle switch, pick one leg of the pop in lock that runs down your vehicle, and hide this switch in an inconspicuous location on your exterior; then use it as a manual kill switch for your pop n lock.

I've always just kept my keyfob in my pocket, the little baby pocket on the right side of my jeans to be specific. When I unlock my truck I always do it via the handle so I've luckily never encountered this issue before but have given myself a few scares where I thought I locked them in, hah!

I would be willing to bet that if you tapped that switch that tells you when that the passenger door is open that you could put another switch in line on that same circuit in the tailgate that you could accomplish your goal.
