When I first started off roading 29 years ago the first few years all I did was go on dirt roads or "Green " rated trails . After awhile it became to easy or boring especially since my jeep was a serious built trail rig and was doing those trails mostly in 2wd

I started going on moderate trails or " Red" rated trails for a few years , even with the increased trail difficulty after awhile that got boring . I then looked and tried "double red " or "Expert" trails which are more difficult with chances of mechanical or body damage and enjoyed it alot especially climbing over vehicle sized boulders which challenged my ability

Now I'm doing "double black diamond" rated trails and its extremely challenging with guaranteed parts and body damage . I like these types of trails now alot and can't get enough

Serious question though, how is this not a problem with the design of the motor? I can't really tell from the OP's picture how steep that is, so I'm talking mostly about the other thread that was linked here where they tested the two trucks. This one: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/smoking-while-on-a-incline.511373/

There are hills in Seattle that are steeper than that. How is it that these trucks can't drive up something like that either on road or off road without a catastrophic failure? Or is it because he was simultaneously revving the piss out of it?

Lol not a big deal amongst the Jeep folks. Just need a catch can. The JL already has a custom kit for it:

I'd be more worried about the frame welds in my JL.

^You mean like the engine mounts that cave in on early 2nd gens? Seriously, amongst all the mods we do for off-roading (think cab mount chop), a catch can is cheap and easy.

Only before 08 ;) And oh agreed. Just throwing that in there. I'm not brand biased in the least bit, in fact helped mom buy her JLU Rubi back in Sept.

I do remember a off road trip in Death Valley 22 years ago sponsored by CA4WDC and their Panamint Valley Days . This was a hardcore Rock crawl up Surprise Canyon from Panamint Valley up 9 active waterfalls to the mining town of Panamint City

This was back before fuel injection was the norm , we had 20 jeeps on this trip including Marlin from Marlin Crawlers and 4 wheel off road magazine editors Rick Pewe and Dave Freiburger

The trail was so steep and rocky with some water falls almost swamping the jeeps .because of the steep terrain there was quite a few nasty carb fires that almost burnt a few of the jeeps down

This is a video of the trail from back in 2001 ....

A prius doesn’t have the payload and towing capacity I need. You know the things trucks were made for.

^Yes if you keep your truck like this for too long, the engine will have problems with oil flow if left unmodified:

According to this thread, that’s a pretty run-of-the-mill angle.

Don't run your truck up a cliff and this won't be a problem. Some of ya'll act like Toyota ought to design engines that can run upside down. Push anything to the limit and sometimes shit breaks. When it does it's YOUR fault not the manufacturer or dealer.
