Just read that the t4rs and Tacoma’s have different radiator materials. T4rs are more prone to fail and overheat the coolant. I have to tow all my belongings up to Thunder Bay so the cooler will go in and I’ll cap off the factory in-radiator cooler regardless of if I buy a new radiator or not.

Did not mean to write coolant, meant to write ATF. Also didn’t word it right. Meant the cooler fails and the coolant mixes and overheats and fucks your trans. I think the Tacoma’s just have a better built rad.

Or just do this? From an ex-dealer tech:

    The pump is $28: https://www.amazon.ca/Docooler-Extractor-Scavenge-Suction-Transfer/dp/B01N63O39M/ or a higher-rated one for $35: https://www.amazon.ca/Performance-Tool-W54170-Extraction-Automotive/dp/B00R8FIYFS/

Just a radiator built differently, so they leak externally before they leak internally. :D Nissan Frontiers also had the ATF contamination issue up until 2009, if I remember correctly.

Then you may be better off with the OME leaf pack or the blackout leaf pack for 2 - 300 lbs

Nope. However, the radiator tends to fail in other ways (like coolant leaking from the top plastic section) before coolant/ATF mixing happens internally. For example: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/coolant-leak-radiator.361720/
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wheres-radiator-swap-thread-with-pics-1st-gen.172642/

Not always a guarantee, of course, which is why I plan to replace my radiator at the 10-year mark, if this truck survives that long, unlike the last one.

^ Just need to be careful with the ATF cooler sizing so it doesn't overcool the fluid (where fluid doesn't get to reach operating temperature in normal unloaded driving).

Just gonna get a $20 replacement, I’m not spending $140 on oem even though I know it will be better quality. Will be mismatched for a while.
