Coming from a fellow techno-tard, my suggestion is to utilize the free alternatives that have been posted in this thread. You don’t have to use the search function to find the link. It has been posted a bunch within the last few pages. There’s a lot of very helpful folks on this thread that will happily give you a hand if you get stuck. There’s even one kind soul that has a private conversation going that may reach out to you ;) winking smiley face ‘csuse I don’t know how to do emojis and don’t care to figure it out!

Lol! Look at that... the emoji just popped up!! The techno-gods must be pleased with me

Interesting, Mat sent me an email about my handheld order offering a partial refund and to either keep me on the list for the handheld or ship a Flash Kit instead. He sent that email back on Feb 14th, I replied on Feb 15 with a question to his offer and still haven't received a reply 3 weeks later. A bit disappointing to not get a response after 3 weeks. Still deciding on what to do here. Patience here I think is best, and I know he has a lot on his plate, so I'm going to give it some more time and cross my fingers this all turns out well and I end up another one of his satisfied clients.

    I replied to your inquiry.
Right now we have 200+ tickets in our sorting section, we are going as quickly as possible right now juggling everything else. Your ticket was buried behind a few pages.

For everyone wondering about a ticket response we are going as fast as possible. Like I mentioned before we are swamped in stuff right now due to the new flash manager release.

    Also,

If everything goes as planned we will have a very big update announcement via blog post for our Tacoma Tune *this month* regarding all the recent dyno development you guys have seen last weekend.

So I'm hoping the issues I'm having will work themselves out with the trims adjusting but just wanted to see if anybody had these issues. I already put a ticket in to zendesk.

So I was 04b03 and was anxious to try the performance tunes as well as get updates faster in the future. Did tsb update with TS and flashed 91 performance, didn't clear ecu learning at that point. Liked base 87 better, so tried 87 perf, again didn't clear ecu... did the normal 10min idle after each flash though. Decided to go back to 87 base (this time with 04b04 cal) and cleared ecu and transmission via TS. Since then, I've had issues. Shifting on base was very harsh. Felt like lag followed by a surge with shifting gears 1–5. Once it was up to speed it drove fine. It got pretty annoying, especially since I had 0 issues with 04b03. Tried 91 base, cleared ecu, same issues and there was idle bouncing. Decided to go to stock 04b04, and shifting was better (not perfect, but improved), but pretty decent vibration while driving...I could see my headlight bouncing at night. Flashed back to 87 base this morning, did not clear ecu this time, but was in too big of a rush this morning so I drove with ECT on and speeding like hell so didn't get a great feel for ride but shifting was better.

Everything I've read here is people have had great driving after clearing ecu, so not sure the issue. Kind of wish i could go back to 04b03. Hopefully my trims will settle in, haven't really given them much chance too since the issues were so pronounced. Just checking for feedback

Well one thing I can recommend right away is stop flashing and clearing the trims so many times so often.
We don't even recommend clearing anything unless you have an issue.

You're going to have tons of odd, and bad driving behavior flashing and clearing flashing and clearing flashing and clearing.

how many miles? sounds like a lot of flashing and not a lot of driving. it takes a while for it to learn trim values and settle in.

I understand that I flashed cleared a lot and have never had to do that before. The drive wad bad enough that i thought clearing was necessary

And going to stock wasn't an option since the drive is worst

Are you turning off the ignition after the flash and before you clear learned values?

I believe it's the trims settling as well, but never experienced such a harsh drive, which is why I flashed different tunes. I'll wait and cross my fingers it settles out.

Just keep driving it, when I first flashed I had the weird shift hang/lag that you described, it pretty much goes away after a while.

There's already videos of the process. Not to mention it's so simple that videos aren't necessary

If I'm understanding you correctly, what you're suggesting is that clearing the TCU/ECU learned values with TS doesn't actually clear everything, and that some sort of remnants remain behind in memory every time you do so? Is that really the case?

That's definitely a change from what I previously understood. I thought it was a completely safe process to flash as often as you want as long as you just flash correctly, clear correctly, and do the proper 10-minute idle learning afterwards.

Can you provide a more technical explanation as to why such a practice is unsafe? Are there really remnants left in the vehicle's memory that could cause minor/severe issues if you flash too often?

I Believe its the opposite of what you are saying. If you flash and then clear values constantly the vehicle is never going to settle in/learn trims, etc.
