Vibration 25-15 MPH & Gas Pedal Vibration

I have a 2018 TRD sport 4x2 model. Only has 300 miles on it.

I have two Issues with the truck:

1. I get slight vibration/shudder when slowing down (always at 25mph down to 15mph) then goes away 14mph-stop. It's not brake related because when I put it in neutral I don't notice it.
I'ts not bad like rumble strip but I do notice it every time coming to a light.
Any things I can check? any aftermarket things that would help?

2. I also have vibration/buzzing in my gas pedal when cruising at different speed/rpms. After a drive my foot gets a tingling feeling. Any ideas that would fix or help this?

Welcome to the 3rd Gen issues

 

1. I'd get under there with a torque wrench and check that your u-bolts and drive shaft components are at the proper torque (see the maintenance sticky for torque specs). Something a bit loose could be causing this - not certain but in my experience these trucks don't come with everything torqued properly... It could still be rear drums even if you're not on the brakes FYI. Mine would shudder even if I wasn't braking b/c of the warp in the drum. Could just be overtightened lugs causing the issue which has been relatively common on these trucks.
2. Vibrations were a bit issue for me. Mostly solved by: Installing a mass damper on the rear part of the exhaust, reduced exhaust vibes. Running premium fuel - this engine will run fine on regular, but it LIKES premium. For me it runs much smoother and doesn't vibe as much. Lastly, OVTune further smoothed out intake/exhaust to the extent the vibes are very minor and barely noticeable most of the time.

Hang in there. It's mostly fixable

 

Okay I will check the bolts as well as the lug nuts. Could greasing the u-joints help? Do you think the TSB for leaf springs and steering wheel damper would fix this? Dealership had my truck for couple days and could not duplicate the issue which is BS. I even test drove two other tacomas and didn't really feel it. He said next step would be to request a toyota engineer to check it out.

Thanks for the advice on fuel, exhaust damper and tune. Can you send me a picture of exhaust damper and where you bought it?

Check to make sure all wheels are torqued properly? Rotate tires to see if that helps?

 

For the acceleration, is it right below 1500 rpm? like just barely pressing on the accelerator on a taller gear?

I feel the vibration sometimes light acceleration and mostly while maintaining speed, holding foot on gas pedal. In the 1250-2000 rpm range I believe.

 

My issue was strictly rpm related. Like right above 1000 rpm, if you held your foot steadily, there would be a very annoying vibration. It would go away if you simply went higher on the rpm range. Thankfully it went away with my new set of wheels and tires.

 

Good to know. I would be super happy if the vibration slowing down/Pedal would either go away on it's own or something simple like wheel related/lug nuts being properly torqued.

 

So does anyone think the vibrations I'm getting has to do with the TSB-0171-16?

 

bump, I checked lug nuts. No change. The 25-15 MPH vibration occurs in drive only and isn't present in neutral. I know brakes are fine. So I really think it's the leaf spring TSB.

As for the pedal vibration. I will be securing this cable wrapped in metal underneath driverside that bshammer0 suggested. Also going to add this https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/vibration-in-gas-pedal.466426/ Not dynamat but maybe some foam tape to create anti-vibration between floorboard and gas pedal actuator. Worth trying.

 

Looks like the transmission shifter cable? After only 15,000 miles mine had already worn though the heat shielding and started rubbing off the jacket on the cable. Pull it away from t-case and tranny, used heavy duty zip ties.

 

I believe so. I ordered some cable tie mounts (for cable underneath) and 1/4" anti-vibration rubber foam pads (for gas pedal). I'll post the results.

 

Having the same pedal vibration when maintaining speed in the same RPM range with my 2018 SR5, i feel it in other areas of the foot well as well as the steering wheel but mainly the accelerator, also seems to be a bit more present when accelerating away from a stop.
Originally the rumble strip vibration from 25-15 used to be much worse on my truck, turned out the leaf spring u-bolts were loose, it improved substantially after they were retorqued down but it’s still slightly present. The gas pedal buzzing hasnt improved at all.
Did the dampeners / shift linkage insulation helped? Where does the exhaust dampener go exactly? Pictures? I have a TRD catback exhaust so some resonance is expected but why would it be mainly in the gas pedal? Engine / transmission mounts?

I haven’t been able to get any help on this on the forum or the dealer who claims the slight vibration when coming to a stop is normal upon test driving another Tacoma (used with 10k miles) it’s been there on 4 different occasions for the issue.

I located T-SB-0013-18 but it appears to only address this issue with the TRD Off-road and TRD PRO maybe the T-SB will be revised to encompass the Sport, SR & SR5, they actually install rubber dampeners between the cab and frame and claim that the vibration is resonating from differential

 

Thank you for the photo, how does this attach exactly? Does it just wrap around the exhaust pipe and the rubber boot just sits against the transmission housing?
