    @ThunderOne
In that one angled pic I see how it looks like it goes around the flare, it does not. It parallels the flare at the front edge when you look from the side. The extra stick out on the top is not due to 'added pieces on a standard design', the regular rear and wrap rear only share 2 pieces- the license plate piece in the middle and the mounting brackets. Every other piece is different on it vs the non-wrap bumper.
The choice to stick out the top edge was for a couple reasons-
    1. That added 'depth' of the bumper away from the truck gives rigidity and makes the sides much stronger. A flat piece of plate steel will bend easily, one with some form and dimension is more rigid and will be stronger in a side hit. We design for ours to take a hit, not just have wrap arounds for the look of it.
    2. Sticking it out a bit gives more protection from the side- Usually the instances where side protection is needed and used it's because the truck is leaned over in a rut, on a rock, or slid sideways into something. The extra stick out gives a little more breathing room to help prevent damage the bedside above the wrap around portion when up against something on the trail. Ours doesnt stick out farther than a tube version, just may appear that way at some angles.
    3. That little ledge on the top of the bumper gives a kind of handy place to step when buried in snow or mud or when accessing a tent or gear on top of a bed rack. On my ol' 03 Tacoma I stood up on the side of mine all the time when opening and closing my RTT.

I know a lot of it comes down to personal preference, I get the appeal of tube. I've considered tube/hybrid wrap around before but we sell a lot of the designs we already make so it would bog us down more to offer even more options and I already don't like how long our lead times can get.

Thanks, all of your explanations make total sense! Maybe I will order your standard bumper and come up with a way to add tube to the side to make a hybrid type thing, I've always like the hybrids the most. Only thing that I know will be complicated (for me) would be adding the side braces, but I'm sure I could figure it out! It would be a good learning experience for me

Mine looks flat, both of them. But they have about a 1/2'' lip.

I used rectangle tubing to make sure it had a nice bevel with mine.

    Seen here:

Its offset from the body about 3/8'' or maybe 1/2'' for deflection purposes.

Jimmy had Quarter tilt do some custom tube sides on our standard a few years back. Heres his build thread with some pics (somewhere! Theres a lot of pages) https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/bayareatacos-expo-crawler-custom-1-ton-sas.287390/

Yeah he did, but that was like 4 or so years ago. We havent offered DIY/WIY options for a few years so you'd have to just get a fully built rear and modify/add on to it.

Snap! Franticaly tries to comb through 70+ pages of build thread on cell phone lol. I'll have to keep looking later, I want to see this.

My Relentless came in, looks very well thought out, and beeeeefy. Hoping to diy a swing out and am very interested in seeing people who have put bars on like the later gen offerings.

Costal makes a great looking product for the 1st gen. The other two gens, not so much.

Agree, took me years to decide on a bumper. I have no brand loyalty but they hit the nail on the head with the design of this bumper.

Never thought about that, but good point. Why not just cut a couple of hi-lift jack points out of the bumper?

Yep. Exactly why I just built my own. I do really like it though and I’ve seen one in person. Looks just as good as in pics.
