Tow Mirrors

I am currently using the Cipa Universal mount mirrors https://towngosolutions.3dcartstores.com/Universal-Towing-Mirror_p_729.html

These mirrors work well, but I am a bit off a mirror snob and getting them in the exact position every time is a bit of a pain. I was wondering if anyone has tried the "custom" type like these?

I know they wouldn't fit exactly, but there has to be some domestic vehicle with a mirror very close to a 2nd Gen Tacoma. I'm almost tempted to go to the car lot with a tape measure. My father in-law has a 05 Avalanche with these mirrors, I'll go try his next time I out his way.

Would they be better than the universal ones?

They have the suction cup ones, but I don't trust the motor in the mirror being able to withstand the air pushing on a mirror at highway speeds.

Yeah but when you're not towing, the tacoma will look really weird.

I have the CIPA ones as well, and although they aren't perfect, they do the job, and they were relatively cheap.

OP- If you happen to find a domestic truck with similar dimensions, then you can easily fab one of those in that link you sent. I'd be interested in what you come up with.

 

I am about to go check out the wireless back up cameras, considering mounting one on the back of my trailer and using that...It'll keep my nice stock mirrors and no bs suction cup action...will post on how it works out after about 3k miles....

 

i know im hijacking this topic haha...what are you guys using for a brake controller..

im towing this and using the most basic Hayes controller, don't like it much at all...

x2. Some have to tweak their settings between city and highway driving, but I haven't found that to be the case for me. I take it nice and easy on both, and haven't found the need to change anything yet. This thing is top notch!

Back to the OP. As far as aftermarket towing mirrors, check out the Hensley McKesh door mirrors, or the CIPA replicas. A lot of guys on the RV forums have highly recommended these and I love my CIPA ones so far.

Here they are on my truck. Not a close up, but you can see them.


No noticable vibration, installing them took about 20 minutes per side, but once you have them set, putting them on and off literally takes seconds, and many times I don't even need to adjust them. Best part is I can see clear as day down both sides of the trailer when pulling it and always feel confident when I'm changing lanes.
