    I'm going to this afternoon.

    So... Tempted...

Ohhhh nice, I will definitely creep on that some more today! I'd love to do that Mercedes swap but the Hilux engine looks way more plug n play. I'm going to do a bit more reading about the Hilux engines and drivetrains. Do you or anyone reading this know if they use a gear or chain-driven TCase? Doesn't the Tacoma and the Hilux share the same/very similar frame?

    You n me both dude.
There's a company, I believe here in Texas, that does D4D swaps on second gens. But they're way too expensive. Way, way, waaaaaaaay too expensive. I'm in love with the Mercedes om617 turbo diesel that first gen has (vids on page one). I really want to drop one in. You can find them cheap and Mercedes bike it to be a million-mile engine.

    That's the one.

You can get a whole Benz with that engine in it for less than a grand. I feel like I'm overestimating at $2500. I'd be really surprised if it took $5000. I'd reuse most of the Mercedes parts and overhaul the engine myself. Remove/replace whatever needs it and throw a few bucks at it to crank up the ponies.

    Oil issue update

Here's what my magnet pulled out of the pan. Some of it was not metallic.

    Here's the filter ripped apart.

    This is from one pleat

Master tech at Toyota told me to add another 2k miles and bring it in. If there's any changes between now and then bring it in immediately. If there are shavings in the oil, they tear down the engine and repair it or replace it with a brand new one.

Fingers crossed it's nothing and I'm an idiot.

Did you figure out the metal shavings in your old oil?

Not yet. I ripped into the filter and found more though. Not a lot but they're there all the same. All fine shavings. The master tech at the dealership said put 2k on it and bring it back so that's what I'll do. I'll also send off for an oil analysis around 1.5k into the 2k.

Curious about the engine fitment. Could you tell if it hung lower than normal? Length would be hard to determine without popping the hood and looking at it in person. I've been curious if the SAS was a necessity.
