so, you put rubber on both sides.........ok......i not did think of mounting the tube with 4 screws and bolts.....i'll bet you can use larger screws and lock washers and flat washers to mount the tube.....then use #4, 6-32 screws and nuts/lock washers to hold actuator.......i will look at that.....i was trying to use 4" long screws and locks and washers to go from outside thru to the bottom the actuator......your idea is much better and I know how I can mount actuator to tube before mounting to tail gate.....thanks for the help and ideas

The rubber on both sides makes it more of "thunk" sound and less of a "ting". Much more solid.

yes i agree......looking at this way i too believe it is stronger........i also think it is much easier using 4 screws to mount to tail gate........again, thanks for your help.....

I've got a dumb question. Please don't rip me a new one.

Due to my OCD, I'm trying to avoid any sort of hole making/drilling. Please excuse my ignorance, but would something such as 3M Dual Lock tape secure the actuator? Obviously it won't hold for life, but, would it work?

Drill the holes. They are very small and it won't hurt the truck. Any adhesive will eventually fail. Drill it and enjoy your new pop n lock.
You could also use the ring method to attach to the lock arm so you don't have to drill a hole in the plastic.

Give yourself at least 3-4 hours to complete both mods if you've never done them before.

I would think that decision is up to you. There isn't a lot of surface area that actually contacts the tailgate, so while this material may be strong, I would think that not too much of these two surfaces will intertwine and make a strong, lasting connection. Drill two holes, put a dab of touch up paint around that newly exposed metal, wait a bit, and continue with install....and NEVER have to crack open the tailgate again. What about when (not "if", "when") your industrial velcro fails? Planning on opening the back to re-stick it on when it does this? If I went that route, I would be thinking, "if only I wasn't such a lazy bastard the first time". Just my thinking.

Do it once, do it right, never have to do it again.

And if the velcro let's go the actuator will hit the inside of the tailgate and leave dent from the inside.

Which post describes this "ring method" you speak of?

So this requires drilling compared to the popnlock not requiring drilling?

I’ve never installed the Popnlock, was just curious.

The Pop n Lock uses existing bolts.

I’m having a problem with mine not unlocking every time (real pain in the a__). About 6 months worth of use. One problem I see with the pop n lock, the point where it makes contact on the trucks lock mechanism when you lock/unlock it takes a lot of force from the actuator to perform this action. I don’t think it could hit at a worse spot. With the tailgate cover off you can try this with your finger and really feel the force you have to apply to lock/unlock. You can actually see the key cylinder moving as you cycle. In my opinion not a good design and not worth the $80-90.

The location where Katie’s actuator connects to the lock mechanism is in a different location and takes very little force to lock/unlock. You can also try this with your finger for reference.

Pop n lock you have to t-tap/splice your connections. You get a harness with plugs with this kit.

For what your getting its well worth $65.
