Brand New Tacoma Developing 1000's of rust spots on body

Hello,

I bought a 2019 SR, 4x4, V6, Double cab in February 2019. It has less than 2500 miles on it. It has developed 1000's of little rust spots across all body panels. This truck has only been on road. Granted, it's New England, but I am shocked by this. I am away on a trip, but I have an appointment with the dealer to discuss the issue when I get back.

Has anybody else experienced this issue? Was a solution offered to you by the dealer? Is this a known defect or something that Tacoma's are prone to getting? I'm coming out of a 2000 Tundra that never developed things like this. My wife drives a 2017 Rav on the same roads, and she does not have these issues.

I'm obviously not happy but waiting to see what the dealer/toyota have to say before I pass any judgement.

Do you think somehow-someway a ferrous grit landed on your truck? That’s rust bleeding through the coating?!

My wife’s car had something similar. She parked near a construction site doing some whip blast before paint. They paid for a full detail and resolved the issue.

 

Are they coming through the paint or just on top of the paint? Did you try taking some tar remover or a clay bar to an area?

 

Rail dust (tiny metal particles), not really a rust. Can be removed with clay bar. You need to detail your truck, then seal it and wax it.

I've never heard of this, but, it indeed looks to be the issue. I hope that the solution is that simple.

Your solution is to buy Iron-X and follow the instructions.

Totally normal, it’s in the surface not under your paint. I had the exact same thing and it’s a super easy fix

Its not the dealers problem... Its yours..

Its from the sand and salt on the road... When they refine those traction materials its all metal crushers that crush it... It leaves mettallic particles in the sand/salt

Also the plow blades..

Had this problem on anything whit I ever owned.

It’s amazing. Use it and wax/seal/coat over top and be happy

 

Funny enough, my 17 taco has none of this, yet my wife's 17 Rav is covered in them lol. My truck is silver, hers is white so both are light colored.

 

Lived in Maine my whole life and never seen something like this. Hopefully thats just the case, but some of those rust spots look pretty big.

For $20 though it would be pretty easy to try something like Iron X in a small inconspicuous spot and see what happens. If theres no luck with that, then see what the dealer says

Respectfully, I disagree. Driving on roads is normal use and the paint should be able to withstand this. I've also looked up implied warranty in my state and believe I have that recourse. Like I said, I am waiting to see what the dealer/toyota have to say. If it is as easy as a clay bar and wax, I hope that they will just offer that and be done.

 

I had the spots all over my white truck.

I washed the truck with a stripping cleanser, doused the thing with iron-x, let it sit, washed it again and sealed it. It completely removed the issue.

It’s not the paint, the paint is fine.

It’s minuscule particulate iron picked up from driving or during transport (commonly referred to as rail dust).

It’s on the surface, not in the paint.

Neutralize it with iron-x

White is 1 step paint with no clear coat and it's well.....white! It's always more prone to this.

 

It's fine. Clay bar it.

 

These spots are ON the paint not IN the paint.

Trust me you don't want the dealership to wax your truck, it will look worse than when you brought it in.
