I’ve been considering this option too. Those are great trailers. M101?

Nope. Brand doesn't matter. Talking about RTT in general.

1967 M416. It was also an excuse to buy a welder and learn how to use it.

There's only a handful of distinct brands and almost all are made in China. 95% of those you see under different brands are made in the same factories and if you can pool together enough people (typically, 10-25 depending on model) then you can order straight from alibaba.com and get them super cheap.

The big things you pay for are quality of materials, QA, after-sale care, and Instacred.

I’m in for $1,000. It had no rust, a title, and in great shape.

Have spent much time in the woods (short trips / extended trips) over a lot of years, and have pretty much perfected my system(s) depending on intent, weather and trip duration. I just can't personally see any problem an RTT solves, but quite a few it creates.

I've been in all these types of camps in some fairly crappy weather, and oftentimes extremely crappy weather. Always slept like a baby.

And outside of details like putting up awnings, tables, etc., the way I like, none of them take more than 10 or 15 minutes to set up. Hell, that little tent-cot set up (my quick in/out scouting set up) I can have off the truck, and be inside going to sleep in less than 5 minutes. Pull it off, fold it open, secure two straps, throw in a bag, and sleep.

For excursions where you're never in the same location two nights in a row, I could see the RTT's being a thing. But damn, I'd hate the daily set up and being stuck in one spot while that thing was deployed.

If I'm going solo, a cot on the ground works. Threw a tarp up over this one about day 3 due to a little rain coming in.

Cabelas double tent cot. Set up in about 2 minutes flat. Great for quick scouting trips or short hunting trips where I'm about never in camp during daylight, and not doing much more there than eating and sleeping.

    camp1.jpg

Kokiak Canvas. Quick set up, and plenty of room for two people on cots / air mattresses, and a heater!
    20171026_132200.jpg 20171026_024628.jpg

These days I'm finding this thing just about not worth the effort to haul out on the highway and then set up anymore. Can get it up relatively quickly, but just doesn't offer much more than the Kodiak canvas tent does. But hanging onto it for trips where the old lady will want some comfort and / or a lot of time will be spent in camp.

This is a critique I can get behind. No mention of social media or cost, just actual camping experiences. Thanks!

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

You are saying a rtt is heavy, bulky, and clumsy but you are setting up a tent, cots, a table, and a heater?

This is true. I became a member of overland bound when I first picked up my truck because I thought it looked cool. Then all that it seems to be a spending contest to see who can have the most junk when camping.

In my defense the only ‘glamping’ (still not quite sure why a rtt is glamping) thing I have is the rtt. The rest is just a carryover from regular camping. Most of my kitchen stuff is backpacking versions. My stove is a white gas camping version. I did splurge on a camp stove that had a griddle so I could try pancakes once. Because cooking them on the backpacking stove kind of sucked.

Oh I also have a fridge. But that’s a different story. That is worth it alone to not have wet food. :)

This is one thing that sucks about a rtt. However for me it’s maybe ten minutes to pack up and ten minutes to set up once I’m back. I’m okay with it. Because normally when I leave camp I pack most of my stuff up so it doesn’t go missing when I’m out. :(

I prefer to find a bear den to sleep in, preferably one thats being occupied by a bear so we can fight for it.

    Take that bear!
