For me (OK, "us") the trailer was/is a good move. We seem to be moving into a hiking/exploring/kayaking mode. And, we go out west once a year with my Dad (and others) so really hard core trails are not on the plan.

One thing - I do keep my fridge in the truck, not on the trailer. This way, on the daily excursions, I have food with me.

You could always build your own trailer for the tougher trails. @jberry813 has a thread for his trailer he built, I recommend perusing for ideas, but you could do something a bit more rugged for the trailer application. I'm thinking the axle and wheels, not the full slide out but something along the lines of his. Just a thought. I like where your going with this though.

Heres the link to his build thread.

NO! I’m not doing another big project for a long time! Haha! I will buy a trailer and call it done. But thanks for throwing me down another rabbit hole of options.

Nice. I’ve got my fridge mounted in the truck already. Probably need a second battery to make sure it can run 24/7 without issues though.

Did my big month long ride last August. Going on a week long ride this July - Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route. Taking some folks from work that want to try out the whole dirtbike travel deal. I really sold its awesomeness when I got back from the TAT. Haha

Awesome. Got the family headed to Oregon in May to scout some neighborhoods and towns for a possible move. Gotta convince the wife about moving to the mainland.

Nice! Where are you thinking? You don’t have to answer that here but I’m happy to chat via PM if you want. I’ve lived in Eugene, Portland, Bend, Hood River, The Dalles in OR and White Salmon and Vancouver in WA. Still have friends in some of those places with up to date intel.

Calakamas county, Damascus or Sandy area is preferred. One of my best friends lives in Happy Valley so id like to be close to there.

All I can say is "holy shit"! You are one dedicated and focused individual! Amazing work and attention to detail. I am so stoked to see this thing on the trailer (I presume that is the route you have decided to go with). Also, I can't wait to see it painted. Are you still on track to have it completed in time for your trip to Moab?

It’ll be really close on timing. If a trailer is involved, then no, it won’t be ready. Two issues with that: 1. Lead time on the trailer I would probably want, when we decide to go that way...if we do) will be too long. 2. I need to tow a trailer with a buggy on it for the Moab trip...can’t tow two trailers!

If there is no trailer, then maybe it’ll be done. It never ceases to amaze me at how long every bit of work takes on this thing. It’s unreal. My lack of ability to stick to a timeline is fully due to inexperience...I don’t really know how long a given task should take. I’m guessing. Every time I think I know what’s up, it’s proven that I don’t know what’s up at all. I’m really tired of that.

I couldn't have said this better. I love our teardrop, being able to have a basecamp really lets us explore an area (hike, kayak, truck) for the week or so we're able to be out.

Rough roads take twice as long with the trailer but it's an awesome feeling getting it to the middle of nowhere and camping for a week.

    Update:

    Camperdone by Moab? - NO
Underbed Boxes done by Moab? - NO
Bumper Reinforcement by Moab? - NO
Trip to Moab? - Not Likely

Why? Work has absolutely exploded. Worked/working both days this weekend. Will be more long hours next week and will remain the same for 4-6 weeks. When we’re steady-state busy, I have no issue taking vacation whenever. But my department has been slow for a long time and now we have several quick turn projects all at once. I don’t feel good about bailing in the week leading up to our final presentations. Oh well, still have another Moab trip planned at the end of May! Haha. I’m worried about having the camper done by that trip now too!
