If your tailgate gets damaged and you need to replace it you would have to deal with the JB Weld

I agree, I think that a safety screw is the best option for that

Well they also have to figure out why it’s not coming off. They probably stole 6 just like it and they came right off no problem. They’re sitting there wondering Wtf is wrong with this one

Screenshot_20190408-060131_Chrome.jpg My tailgate was stolen and I built the tailgate myself. I ordered all the parts and replaced the handle with a pop n lock handle. Got a backup camera from pop n lock also. Its better than the stock camera. Haven't had it stolen again.

You watch those cop shows those drug addicts have back packs with bolt cutters and various tools --- it's like a back pack tool box . Then they check their pockets sockets and screwdrivers and key rings with a 100 keys on it . Some are semi pro mechanics that even work on their buddies stolen bicycles .

JB weld can be softened with heat, just put a lighter or torch on it (carefully) and pick out the chunk of JB weld with a knife or hanger or something similar. I've thought about doing this but seems a bit extreme since I very rarely park in sketchy areas. I put threadlocker on all 4 bolt threads... 2 hinges/2 bolts each.

And I'm still looking for large washers (for the top cable mounts) that don't bind the cable eyes when those studs are tightened... the cables need to pivot on that top bolt while the gate is swinging, and every suitable washer in my collection binds that top part when I tighten the stud.

Here's a thought. Take a longer countersunk bolt. Grind the threads off it where it contacts the captive nut. Screw the bolt through the anti tweaker device, into the tailgate. Once it gets all the way in, it will spin freely. Then put a nylock nut on the inside. That way, if the tweaker happens to have a torx bit, it will just spin. If you need to take the tailgate off, you just remove the panel and put a wrench on the nut.

I welded a cut piece of washer to my cable ends that stops them from coming off, if I need to take my gate off, I just unscrew the bolt that the cable is hooked to
    Nice, I like this idea

that's why we put the epoxy glue. If they have to scrape that off it will slow them down a little.

I think the key here is to make the theft of your tailgate significantly more difficult than that of the other guy’s, so they just take his instead. There is no such thing as making something perfectly secure.

There are different types, but the one I like is like the ones they use to put up bathroom stalls, it's a special bit and only works in reverse, but there are some torx types that have a peg in the middle so a regular torx bit won't even go on, u can find them on Amazon
