If it were only from vibration wouldn't running a three pass mig weld at the intersection of the upright and that steel cross piece the d ring bolts reinforce it against the vibration? Or would it crack or tear above the weld instead. There is some local stress right in the same spot it seems.

I do the same thing and I drilled the front corner drain holes out to a larger size. That helps wash out too. I have a roll up cover and bed mat.

A word of caution there. The left drain hole is right over the fuel filler neck.

There have been at least two cases where that was nicked and leaked. Not a cheap repair.

Mine has less than 10k miles so I’m planning a set for preventative maintenance most likely the Cali Raised. I used a set of their lower grill LED mounts and they were a spot on fit and finish. I like that in a product/company.

It's still a truck with a base price of 26k or whatever. I've welded, cut and drilled into my truck several times already. It's not a classic collector's item. It's a truck.

I'm still not convinced bed stiffeners actually do anything.

That's not me, that's @tacoma16. IIRC he just had an RTT and was doing some light wheeling.

It's all the same guy, I was just posting up different parts of the story so as to paint a more complete picture. Yes he had a heavy load but not any heavier than a lot of the set ups I see on here. I'll probably make myself some stiffeners at some point as a fun welding project, but still don't think it'll really do anything.
