Essentials for 10k tune up/oil change?

I have a 17 4x4 sport understand the oil is not changed until 10k. I plan to look up the synthetic type in the manual but what else needs to be done with the 10k tune up?

Note: Driving in heavy traffic, on dirt roads or in urban, dusty or desert areas may shorten the life of the cabin air filter. Replacement may be needed if you notice reduced air flow from the air conditioner and heater or if the windows fog easily when you use the Fresh mode. Consult your service advisor if any of these conditions occur.

Ok, 12 months or 10,000 miles. Which oil?

 

for those of you who did/do your oil changes what are the parts that you get before hand? i know this engine is a lot different than the 4.0 that i had in my other taco. that oil change took all but 2 mins lol. basically, im wondering if you guys could list things that could make this much more smoothly, like aluminum housing (i remember someone mentioning in another thread), any drain valves, whatever! i know an unorthodox request, but i appreciate it. thanks.

 

I just did this again a few days ago.

• The filter kit should come with two new o-rings (a big one and a small one), a one-time use plastic drain tool for the housing, and the new cartridge. I buy the Toyota filter in bulk, since it's so cheap. They should all have the same parts though.
  
• You'll want this tool:

• Some new gaskets for the drain plug wouldn't hurt:
  $9 Genuine Toyota - Oil Drain Plug Gaskets (QTY10)

• A small 1-2" extension for your ratchet will give you more room to turn your wrench. Obviously you'll want a metric set. If you don't have a torque wrench, make sure you don't overtighten things.
• And 7 quarts of 0W-20 with a good size drain pan and some shop towels.

I've never had a problem with the plastic housing, but I always torque to spec and I make sure my tool is properly seated before applying any force. I notice the housing is hard to screw past where the o-ring seats using just my hand. Once I get it to that point, I go ahead and tighten it the rest of the way with my wrench until it's torqued to spec.

There should be plenty of room to slide underneath and do everything without jacking up the vehicle. You just need a flat spot the work on. I've been doing it in a gravel driveway. I suggest throwing down some cardboard though to catch drips and overflow.

The 3.5 really isn't radically different than the 4.0. It's the same architecture. The computer controlled stuff is a little different.

As far as special tools? Just the filter tool. I'm at 86K and did my oil changes other than the free ones and have not had issue with the plastic housing. I don't use a torque wrench. I just get it snugged up and it works fine.

 

Whichever come first.

Use 0w-20 Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy.
Get the Toyota filter which will have the o-rings and filter drain push-in.
Get the proper tool to remove the filter housing.
A hose for the filter drain plug is nice for reducing mess.

Lube driveshafts if applicable.
Check rear u-bolt torque.
Check level of all other fluids.

I’ve been able to get the filter at Walmart. Some of them, usually the mega-marts, have started carrying the Toyota filters in their “Toyota genuine parts” box. It has the gaskets and the filter drain thingy included. I think I paid about $7-8 so I just grab one when I pick up the 5 qt jug plus another qt of Mobil 1.
