Hey Murph. The first time I needed front brakes, I went with EBC Green and Brembo blanks. They worked OK. They squeaked from day one however.

I’m now rocking Powerstops extreme duty / towing kit with drilled and slotted rotors.

Can’t say I noticed any difference between the two. Although, at least the Powerstops don’t squeak.

What did make a dramatic improvement, is the rear discs coupled with the Sequoia master cylinder.

These 37s and Beadlocks are 40 lbs heavier each than the 35s were.

This truck has never stopped so well.

yeah the real trick is to get rid of the horse and buggy rear setup that toyota left us with. Get yourself rid of the rear springs and snare drums and the truck will be right as rain

After reading that thread I am hesitant as I have 10 16in wheels that would be no bueno. So it would be brakes and wheels for me. Going to read up on the rear disc mod. Thanks again.

I’ve done a fair amount of research on the rear discs and kept running into an interesting issue. Apparently the stock master brake cylinder components do not give enough pressure to support rear disc conversion and that system needs to be upgraded as well...
Trail Toys makes a GM master brake cylinder adapter to overcome that issue.

My truck stopped great with just the rear disc swap, even better when I added the sequoia MC. I’m convinced the new MC increased braking power to the front as well.

The SOS Performance (Tundra Racing) kit. All Toyota parts. Cool thing about this backing plate is you can upgrade to the stop tech calipers later if you want.
I recently installed the Sequoia master cylinder as well.

    Both gave noticeable improvement.
The level of customer service from Tom is rare these days. Super helpful guy.

The only issue I had was devising my own way to install the master cylinder. He offers no real instruction for its installation.

Is that a bolt on kit? The one hit I looked at a while back required pressing new hubs onto the axle shafts and all kinds of craziness. But that was a while ago not sure if there are easier kits out now

Would you please take a couple pictures of your Sequoia MC installation? I have the Atrac unit on the DS in front of the MC.

FWIW, Jo n says not to bother with the 4runner calipers in the rear if your truck runs heavy. He replaces rear pads every six months. Plans on going with Stop Tech 4 pistons soonish

That’s the kit I’ve looked at. Can’t remember now if it needs 17” wheels though and I have 16’s. But also this V last time I looked it seemed like a pretty involved installation..?

It’s bolt on for the most part. Instead of pressing the bearing off, you can cut the Drum backing plate off with a cutting wheel. I recall beating out the hub studs as well. A bit of heat and they come out easy.

He discusses it all in this video. The most annoying part for me was assembling the parking brake setup that resides inside the rotor hat. The kit comes with illustrated installation instructions. It took a whole day for me and I installed extended brake lines plus the optional stainless stoptech caliper lines. I took the bed off and worked like a gentleman. Then did a full fluid flush with a vacuum bleeder. I would not attempt the old pump/hold/bleed/repeat technique.

If you have two wires going to your reservoir you’re good, four wires is a no go.
I didn’t take many photos of the install. I was very patient and deliberate with everything and was a first time go.

I can go over everything in detail if you decide to do the install.
