Like to have the kit done by a pro. Will pay for the whole thing and then whatever the refund is after sending them back my original headlight assemblies.

As to the high wattage Xencn 70w ‘off road only’ H9s.

    Chinese product lies.

The 65w rated Philips bulbs pull more current.
    EF7A0FEF-4021-4E89-8ACE-D0EDFD78F556.jpg

The 65w rated Philips bulbs have higher output:
    AA9AF1DF-AA4B-4BCF-9980-7ECA16E9CE10.jpg

While H9s are sold as 65w, doing the math on Volts x Amps = Watts, you can see the Philips actually pull 74.2w vs Xencn pull 73.9w. However this is in the legal allowable range for a 65w bulb, which allows +/- 15%, meaning a legal max of 74.75w. So sure the Xencn pull over 70w, but all they did is change the label on the package and sell them as something they are not, they are not over-wattage, they don’t even match the stock wattage of the Philips H9s. Just another over-promised misleading lighting product.

Big thanks to @crashnburn80 for all his research. I now have headlights that are much better than stock without wasting $$ on LED's that would not work well with OEM headlights.

I greatly appreciate the offer, thank you.

After a bit of a uncertain start, 2016 3rd Gens running an AGM battery should look at this and upgrade their charging voltage, which also increases headlight output. 2017+ use ECU controlled voltage on the alternator and are not able to benefit:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-northstar-agm-battery-voltage-booster-upgrade.604478/

I’ll also re-ping Headlight Services and see where they are on the 3rd Gen harness.

Hoping it will be ready soon. It will make the Philips H9 in the low beam even better. Will Probably get 2 sets, one for the wife's Sienna which also takes H11 bulb in the low beam

Does this mean we cannot use a secondary battery in our 2017+ Tacomas?

It means that the 2017+ trucks are not able to properly charge an AGM battery to the appropriate voltage level using a voltage booster. If you do not charge your AGM at adequate voltage, they are being chronically undercharged which leads to sulfation, which reduces performance and shortens life. Here is a brief explanation of what that is:
    https://deepcyclebatterystore.com/battery-sulfation/

Since the 2017+ trucks alternators are ECU controlled, it may be possible to re-tune it with some kind of ECU tuner like OrangeVirus. Otherwise you would want to periodically charge the batteries on an AGM wall charger at home to prevent sulfation and keep them working at peak performance for maximum life.

I'm installing one of these bluetooth smart app battery voltage monitors tonight, so I can log my charge voltage over time including logging drive cycles to have the data to dial it in just right, vs some static multimeter readings.

    BM2 Battery Monitor

Thank you graciously. I'll shoot you a PM.

I have updated post #2 to contain charts to better summarize the data of continued testing with updated recommendations. I moved some of the testing summaries from post 2 to post 3 and cleaned up inaccurate information. I also excluded noise from non-reputable products that blatantly lie in their marketing like Lunex and Xencn so that the density of product quality is higher.

Is there a place I can order the actual German Philips H9 bulb and be sure that I won't get the China or Korea one? Thanks for all of your hard work, much appreciated. I was uneducated with our Tacomas lighting prior to reading this and I was leading heavy to LED. Not anymore lol!!

If you look at the previous post above yours you will see that there is a chart showing that the Chinese Philips H9 is on par with the German ones.

Sorry haven't read that far along yet, I am on page 38 and OP had stated the German version was slightly better, but thanks for the info I'll check it out.

It does look close, but my question still exists. Can anyone provide a link for just the German verison of the H9? Thanks

Pretty sure it’s random from the Amazon link that was provided, although I ordered 4 that were all german then 2 a week after mostly just to see where they’d be from/to have extra backups and they were german too. They came in like 1 day so I’m guessing it depends on what they have stocked regionally but could be wrong.

Typically I test everything then share the final results and put up a thread. This time, I took a different approach, did the initial testing for the thread and then continued to test other bulbs and share the results as I went. If you are reading along through all the pages of the thread, this has led to a few incorrect assumptions along the way, which were later corrected.

As mentioned the German Philips and made in China Philips are very much on par with one another, Philips does not appear to distinguish between them and they have the same part number. So even places that sell them may have no control over the inventory they receive from Philips and may not be aware of which version they have.

If you had to get the German bulbs, you could pay a steep premium and order the Vision packaged bulbs from the UK:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009HL7MJK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These are the exact same bulbs as the German $8 ones off Amazon. They are not +30 like the rest of the Vision line. For that price though you could order several bulbs from Amazon if you didn't get the German ones in the initial shipment. And amazon has an super easy return policy so you could always return it if you didn't get the ones you wanted. The 2% difference I measured between them is trivial as bulbs could vary that much off the same production line, and your eyes will not be able to tell the difference. Now this isn't to say the China production doesn't have a higher error rate, I have no data there. But based on the products I've evaluated they are effectively equivalent.
