Just came out to a new Tacoma without a tailgate.
After speaking to the police, it seems multiple trucks
were hit in the Manhattan/Hermosa/Redondo/Torrance area
last night, tailgates and catalytic converters primarily.
I now know the tailgate lock tricks and will be more careful with it.
The sad thing is this area of so.cal. used to be very safe and
free from gang activity. The officer said the Tacoma is one of the most
commonly hit vehicles now and they think it is gang related due to the scope of the losses.
    Lock/protect your trucks.

    Thanks.
I should have known to check the FAQ and safeguard the truck when I got it.
Also, agreed, the people selling perfect tailgates on craigslist got them how?.....right.
Don't want to support that, but they are $200 and my deductible is $1000.
There are a couple yards down here specializing in Toyota selling them for
~$600 which I'll prob. do (and they actually have the rest of the truck...lol)
So I'll eat an extra $400 to not support crime.
What makes me feel a little better is I'm going to go get a bunch
of #20 clamps and give them to all the Tacos around here.

Thanks, I just hope it doesn't teach the scumbags to carry clamp keys.....lol

I was going to do the EZ-clamps with the wing-keys, but it might
be better to use a std. clamp oriented in a way that you'd have to use
a swivel + long extension ie. no room to fit a wrench or screwdriver in close.
That way if they did have a key/wrench/screwdriver, they still couldn't get it off.
I'll have to go look at the orientation and see.

Damn that's just wrong. Any way to get law enforcement to check on these sellers?
