I was actually thinking about moving from CA, and the Reno Area is definitely on my top five list.

Judging from only six months of living there, how is it like there? I heard the weather is awesome, and a lot of outdoor activates to do, and indoor.
Did it get hit hard by the economy, a lot of businesses shutting their doors?
    Crime?

I love it because there is a lot close and a lot to do. Off road of course, mountain bike, down town Reno, Tahoe (chimney beach) on the NV side, Great mountain views 360 degrees, Weather is awesome 90's day 50's night but its real dry. Winter here is cool lots of snow and skiing :D Im sure im missing stuff but there are some downsides to this place some of the valleys are tweaker city. The housing market here blows and unemployment is one of the worst in the country. Its also a smaller city than what im used to to Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Yes there is evidence of businesses closing there doors a few casinos too. I live in a "good" part of town so I haven't noticed much crime... Oh yeah and they dont tax the hell out of you like CA. No state tax!

I was wheeling in that same spot about 2 weeks ago. Very easy access and some cool views of the city. I've lived here for 22 years and I agree with your opinions about the area completely.
