I recently purchased a KB Voodoo bed rack, it’s got some surface rust on it so I’m planning on sanding it down and repainting it. I’ve been thinking about using por 15 paint then possibly also some sort of bed liner or line x over that. What would be the best way to go about this process?

Don't think that response was needed, he's not complaining or calling out @KB Voodoo. He's just looking for a way to fix it. OP like others have said wire brush then Duplicolor Bed Liner.

Yea, I was just pointing out it seems to be a common theme lately. I have had good luck with Por 15, If a sandblaster is accessible you can take it down to bare metal and start over, do it right, and it should last a while. If you use spray on bedliner try it on a small scrap piece to get a feel for it so you can avoid runs.

Trust me I want to complain a lot but at this point complaining to KB Voodoo seems useless. They have bad powder coating and I think that’s just a pretty well known thing. I had heard of problems before I bought it but I didn’t think they were gonna be as bad as they are. That’s why I really don’t care to make a big deal out of it, because it truly is just that bad. From the other threads I’ve read KB Voodoo won’t do anything to help me at this point so mine as well just do it myself.

Same thing happened to mine years ago. Got it linex coated. It’s been great since then.

Yeah I was truly amazed to see how quick the rust started. The paint was just flaking away 5-6 months after I bought it. I understand steel products are susceptible to rust but paint shouldn’t be flaking and falling off after that amount of time with pretty much no usage. KB Voodoo simply needs to start selling this rack bare until they can get a permanent solution to there powder coating problem.

Here’s just a couple pics of what I’m dealing with. These are the worst of them, all the edges are already peeled off and I can just scratch the paint off any part that isn’t already damaged with just my nail. A $10 grinder from harbor freight and 2 polycarbide wheels would remove the rust, loose paint, and scuff up the rest. Then just Rust-Oleum bed liner or any other decent spray product

Yea just a wire brush and some bed liner. The bed liner has held up on everything I have sprayed it on.

damn shipping companies don't care. I got my order of dakar leaf springs from Amazon the other day and I swear it looks like they were tied to a rope and dragged the whole way behind the truck.

Given the nature of the rack, the cost of powder coat, the cost of prep to allow a proper powder coat and go on...

Much better off spending $35 on bed liner.

If nothing else, as a general rule of thumb, powder coat doesn't like straight hard edges. The rack is sheet metal.

Do you have any experiences with any bed liners? I’ve been leaning towards custom coat or raptor liner just based off what I’ve read.
