TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

These are definitely quality tools. Unfortunately, I found it too long to use/fit without removing more things than I wanted to from the engine bay.

Agreed and I know Craftsman is a pale shadow of what it once was, but their 5-Ton Ratcheting Puller (recommended by @crashnburn80) fit and worked well for me.

 

Oh, that’s probably a great point to mention. I did mine with the super charger out of the truck!! Didn’t even think about length!!

 

Momentum specs say it flows more than Magnum but dyno numbers are less, any guesses why?

 

Depends on the state of tune of the truck I imagine. They arent testing it on mine obviously

 

LOL! I figured that out when I tried to test-fit stuff before undertaking the upgrade. At first, I was confused because you'd said it worked for you. Then, I remembered the extent of your build. Thankfully, the return was painless and the Craftsman alternative was readily available.

Figured I'd save others from my extra step...

 

I would not look at dyno test numbers. I want the most possible intake real estate available to ensure maximum airflow. Besides, the intakes tested on NA. Flow characteristics of an NA vehicle are much different over that of a supercharged vehicle.

 

Also, not a dealbreaker but the new Momentum is more of a pain to access the filter. Doesn’t have the removable top like the old style so you have to pull it all apart.

If I could find one of the old TRD intakes aaFE built for 05-11 do you know if it’d fit on my 15?

 

That would be the same as an afe stage 2 si (you want the 2012+ tacoma one) same design, will work

It’s the same as @inwood customs mentioned but you will need a bracket to relocate your SAI pump which the afe one conveniently comes with.

Ohh snap that changes things. AFE won't sell that part separately (or the red couplers), I might be able to fab up a bracket though.

 

I might get there eventually but not ready to add the 7th injector yet. Easing into it by telling myself 2.7 will be all I ever need...

 

It does not work like that. 4500 ft means less air. Less air means less fuel needed. Boost is relative!

Link just goes to Sears. But the Craftsman 5-ton puller will make short work of the stock pulley. I used HF pullers on the stock pulley, and the HF puller grenaded, twice. I was lucky to not loose an eye. The Craftsman puller under far higher stress removing the URD pulleys pulled though without incident. I was more worried about the pulley than I was the massive puller. Solid buy.
