Ordered these beauties. ROTA Grid X offroad 16x8 +5. Gunmetal face with black lip. I should have paid closer attention to the super flat face of the wheel. Most wheels concave out giving room for the brakes. These just scrape the front brakes very lightly when mounted.

I really like them and I don't want to pay the restocking fee and return shipping so I ordered BORA .75" spacers instead. That will make the wheels a 16x8 -14mm, so pretty much like the SCS wheels.

Seems like that spacer might still leave them a little too far inboard. Wouldn't you want a slightly positive offset if not zero?

Positive offset = wheels closer to the frame.
Negative offset = wheels farther from the frame.

    In a nutshell.

Offset won't matter in this case, you are basically moving the entire inner face of the wheel away from the brake caliber.

Edit by using spacers. An otherwise identical wheel with a different offset would still rub.

Those are sick. Post pictures when you get them installed with the spacers.

Exactly. The .75" spacer (19mm) pushes the wheel further out (and out past the fenders) like a negative offset. So a 16x8 +5 becomes a 16x8 -14 with the spacer.

What size tires? -14 offset will likely cause some slight rubbing that can be countered with a heat gun to the fender liner.

285/75R16s. About 2.5" front lift. No rubbing with 16x8+0 at full travel. It's a gonna be close.

With a lift I’m sure you’ll be good!

Would grinding down the brake caliper be an option?

I thought about it briefly. It's that raised hump on the front face of the brake, but I just don't feel right about that. There's probably a cast hydraulic vein there.

Seems odd. Isn’t the factory wheel a +32 offset or something like that? Is it just the inner wheel design? Is that what you mean by it just goes straight back?

According to a post in this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/grinding-the-brake-caliper.153662/

It's a brace between the ears, but always proceed with caution. If it's 1-2 mm, then I would be comfortable grinding it down. Any more than that, then I would worry about comprising the brace.

It's this raised section in the middle. I have a feeling it serves a purpose so I am not going to grind it.

Hmmm, once the LH side didn't mount up without rubbing the caliper, I didn't proceed any further.

Houses the pistons. Def has a purpose. Good choice not to grind.
