True that! We bought an ECU for our Forester because a flawed timing sprocket wrote bad data into the ECU.

Just out of warranty, but we got some goodwill.

I have reverted back to stock due to harsh downshifts and transmission clunks. Truck not only upshifts early but also downshifts early coming to a stop and doesn't let go of the gears therefore causing a major clunk on 2-1 downshift. Ive tried different tunes and ive reset transmission learning and its no help. I guess i will put a ticket in for it but i will be back stock for a while.

    false.

Also, not sure how much flash tuning experience you have (in regards to other posts) but flashes failing, having to be reflashed again, etc happen all the time in the tuning world. You just flash again.
But if you spam the communications channel with flash attempts you lock up the system. So you cycle power and flash again.

That is why our software can recover the ECU. Because anything can happen. Luckily, even in the absolute worst scenario, like someone unchecking the "checksum" and pulling the plug half way through (which would render almost any ECU permanently useless) our software can fully recover it.

    Oh man!

Our initial fault code was for the CPS. The shop said those pop up from time to time. But, they said the bad timing sprocket was a very rare situation that they had seen before. The thing is running better than it ever has since.

Seriously, ignore through the forum or have the mental strength to ignore on your own.

responding to him just validates his bullshit and encourages him

I know, but sometimes that bait is just so hard to ignore. Plus I don't really like the fact that newbs to this forum might really think this is a reasonable guy with reasonable complaints. Could turn off a lot of potential customers which I don't feel Mat deserves. But I get it, responding just keeps feeding the fire and giving him what he wants. :annoyed:

My post was not intended to take business away from you, I get it you have a following. This post I made was about me and I would never risk messing with my truck. You have a clan that is happy with their purchases. I just wanted to say I would not do this to my truck. That is all, Your product is that good what I say will not take away from you. After all this forum is all about mods. I stumbled onto this thread to see what is all about and with all the bickering I still did not learn anything from this thread.

I did the TSB to get me from 04B03 to 04B04. Tried different tunes.
Best for me is 87 Base, running 87 octane or even better 93 octane. Taco runs awesome.
I’m a dongle user, so had the earlier tune 1.04.
Not sure if the TSB had anything to do with it other than getting me to 04B04.
A previous post on how to get the dealer to do it.
    See post 226.

I assumed it was some kind of maintenance being done but who knows, we get cheeky
where I mod but I don't ever take an entire sub forum down....intentionally. :D

Heading in for my 10k service later today. Gonna have to tell them the throttle's a bit sensitive so they don't ram it into car in front or a wall! :burnrubber: The dealer I go to is really great, and is very diligent with their customer service, so I'm curious if they flash a TSB on it. We'll see!

Technical Service Bulletin. Basically like a recall but not required and may not affect all trucks. There are some TSBs for some ECU versions.

Why don't you ask for it? Or is this something they just due when you bring the truck in. Mine is going in for first checkup in a week or so. I may mention my door issue but I prefer to get in and out
