    castor used to leave very heavy sludge deposits on engines i looked at...my neighbor was a engineer and rebuilt engines since he was 15yrs old......they were awful looking.....i quit using castor after that

    I buy the factory filter elements in bulk on Amazon or E-Bay, end up being about $5 each.

    thanks....i looked at RockAuto and they have them for around $3-$5....but if Amazon has them and the are OEM, I’ll go that route

    I did the complete opposite of this thread, converted my 2.7L to the cartridge from you 3rd Gen V6 guys because it really is the worst oil change ever.

    After a while draining it irritated me, so I added a Fumoto valve to drain it too!

    If you watch for it, Mobil 1 does $12 Rebates a few times a year, you can end up doing an oil change for under $20.

    I found filters, OEN, on eBay for good price. 5 for $27 with free shipping. Also can get Mobile 1 full synthetic, 6qts for $28at Sams. Thanks for the help

    Really glad I found this post - I hate the cartridge. It would be one thing if the cartridge was done ala Mercedes style where it's inverted and topside, but it's not. But quite frankly I WILL spend the two 'C' notes happily to do the Baxter. Just sold my 313K 1997 Tacoma V6 and did the first oil change on the 2016 (3rd Gen) Tacoma and was like WTF???

    As a side note, for the span of twenty years I've had the 1997 (5VZFE V6) - always done oil change via oil extractor. I also service the transmission (flush & fill) once a year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjxmlrbpjTk (Wynns transerve II) utilizing this machine does a one-for-one fluid exchange (including the torque converter).

    Every 10k miles you save five precious minutes on an oil change.

    Bonus that you get to waste more materials that go in the garbage, spend whatever $$$ that adapter contraption costs to buy, give yourself an extra interface to leak and you can't see if it's got contaminants w/o cutting it open.

    If I was going to the trouble - I'd put a relocation kit on it and move the thing up under the hood so I didn't need to bother with skidplate access either. But I'm not going to the trouble.

    There is no benefit. I prefer the spin on, if I can source suitable braided lines, I will relocate the filter topside.

    Check Ebay. I got a 10 pack with a bag of 10 drain plug gaskets for like $40 shipped or less from some online toyota parts department at a dealership in florida iirc.

    Yeah - everything's a risk. It's a project and it's a very remote risk (no pun intended) I'm willing to take...had pretty good luck with my last 300K mile Taco.

    Spoke with Kevin at Baxter today with questions I had. Like what did you guys (Baxter Performance) utilize exactly? hoses used, orientation of canister outlet, length of hose, etc... what an outstanding guy, took his time to answer all my questions quite patiently.

    At any rate, ordered the hoses and couplers today. I’ll post what I accomplish soon. Since I just completed an oil change I may wait a week or two.
