I have had my 07 base model 4x4 V6 Automatic for about 8 months and I got it from a Toyota dealership but they didn’t say anything about it having an alarm. When I lock it with the key fob it honks once quietly, sounds muffled. When I unlock it honks the horn twice loud as if you were actually honking the horn. It is too damn loud I go to work at 4:30 in the morning and live in a townhouse complex so the neighbors must hate me. But I have read up on here and can’t seem to find an answer.
I have tried holding the lock button for 5 seconds and at the same time holding the panic button. I have tried holding both lock and unlock buttons together and that didn’t work either. I don’t know if it is stock or if it has an alarm, the lock/unlock horn honk sounds like it’s comign from the same place under the hood as when you honk the horn on the steering wheel. Under the hood there is 2 horns in the very front. Anyways it’s driving me (and the neighbors) crazy. Hopefully someone has the answer. Thanks

Any signs of wiring under the dash ?
    Doesnt sound factory to me
Locking my truck , i get a tiny beep , unlocking gives me 2 tiny beeps

If i had to guess you could probably get the dealer to shut it off. They have proprietary software that has more access to the computer. They can turn things like daylight running lamps on and off etc.

Just unplug it under the hood. If it is like a 14, it’s drivers side forward under there. Been 5 years so I don’t remember exactly.

Use the key in the door to unlock. No more honking at 4:30.

I tried that yesterday and the horn started going off which I realize is an aftermarket alarm.

I posted some pics earlier. There is a cluster of wires under the hood beside the battery but there is a switch wired in the dash that at least a couple of them go to... the switch has power and when I turn it on and check the 2 wires they are live. I’m thinking maybe the previous owner had a light bar or something they took out before selling. So I unplugged the 2 horns under the hood separately and it didn’t make a difference. When I unhook both of them it takes the horn away completely, I only want to remove the horn when locking/unlocking not the actual horn on the steering wheel but it seems they’re all the same horn.

My horn sounds as well when using the fob. I just recently purchased this truck. I believe I have some short of alarm, it has a blue flashing light mounted between steering column and parking brake...I do not know if it is factory or aftermarket.

Before physically disabling the "answer back" alarm (that appears to be what Toyota calls it) Try this ridiculous procedure. It actually worked on my 2015 TRD Tacoma. Repeat the process to toggle the horn back on WITHOUT removing it entirely.

TURNING THE TRUCK “BEEP” ON/OFF WHEN LOCKING/UNLOCKING DOORS

Toyota calls the beeping an "answer-back" function. It's new for 2009 on the Tacoma; other Toyota models have had it for a long time.

Here's how you toggle the answer-back beep off and on for the factory keyless entry (not Toyota's VIP alarm add-ons) on 2009+ Tacoma models:

    1. Open the driver's door, and leave it open

    2. Insert the key into the ignition.

    3. Remove the key from the ignition, and within 5 seconds, re-insert the key and then turn the ignition to ON.

    4. Wait at least 10 seconds, but less than 20 seconds.
After waiting, press a button on the remote twice (Press the same button two times - don't press two different buttons. The system will acknowledge with a beep if you did it right).

Toyota's instructions for this sort of thing are very literal and must be followed EXACTLY. It's helpful to use the flashing ":" symbol in the clock to count the seconds in step 3.

If you disconnect the battery, the setting will return to the factory default setting of ON.

Yea I tried multiple times, it didn’t work I think I have an aftermarket alarm or something although it is the stock key fob.

    Thanks though

Just a heads up, this will still cause the horn to honk in the same manner

This may be one of those dealer installed alarms that they add, don't tell you about and then overcharge you for at the last minute when you're doing paperwork. These are often Karr brand alarms. I recently ran into this issue with not being able to turn off the "call back" honk on my new CR-Z and it turned out to be a Karr alarm. I did some googling and found a solution that worked for me: https://scienceblog.com/56313/disable-horn-beep-on-karr-alarm-especially-honda-crv/

At first I didn't think it worked but after a few tries I got it. I think I was just a little off with the timing/sequence. There are a handful of postings about this so there's more out there if you do some googling.

    Reviving another old thread!

    I've posted also here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/strange-button.600868/page-2#post-22982133

I bought my truck two years ago; I've never experienced any alarm feature as it was deactivated.
However, after I wrecked my truck and had the battery removed for repairs; I realized the extra horn was for an aftermarket alarm.

There's a small button attached to the lower cigarette lighter panel on the driver's side of the center console (this is how I know it's aftermarket).
The wiring from the alarm horn is wired what looks to be right into the stock harness. I could take off a panel to get a picture if anyone needs to see it.

When I bought the truck, I was not given a key fob and there were no beeps when I interacted with the vehicle in any way that would indicate there to be an alarm present.

My question: How do I disable the alarm (perhaps using this button?) without a key fob? As now every time I hookup the battery and have the door open; the alarm sounds.

I found the answer to my question by searching: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-disable-alarm-on-2001-toyota-tacoma.525092/#post-16726002

I too hate the beeps when locking and unlocking with a remote. I tried the procedure as described by BeeVee in post #14 on my 2011 Prerunner. In step #4 of the instructions I used the lock button - no luck. I started over and tried the unlock button - still no luck. I started the sequence a third time and used the red panic button in step #4 - Success! No more beeping. Thanks BeeVee.
