Double Cab Enclosure

Hey Mr. Marv,

I was curious to know if you could make a sub enclosure/amp rack that goes on the passenger side of the truck and replaces the JBL enclosure. I would like to maintain the plastic storage area behind the seat on the driver's side.

I want to install a 10" sub in the enclosure.

Yes I do make an enclosure for that situation Cortland and it's actually one of my most popular designs.
Below is the short version that fits below the child seat tethers keeping them usable and I can also build it the full height if needed for larger amps/more airspace.

Awesome! What do you charge for the short one and the tall one? How much airspace does each one have? Also, I was curious to know how much you charge for 6.5" speaker mounts for the front and rear?

 

I build each one for the specific amplifier/subwoofer so the airspace varies (I use the back side of the amp rack for additional airspace) and the cost varies accordingly. If you are not sure what gear you will be using and need help deciding just let me know as I have numerous lines of car audio gear available as well (if I don't have what works best for you I'm sure I can direct you to someone reputable who does)

Would you mind explaining the difference between 2 ohm and 4 ohm subwoofers?

 

No difference, it's just impedence rating for the voice coils. Depending on whether you order a single voice coil, or dual voice coil subwoofer, you wire them up in different ways in order to meet your impedence rating on your amplifier. Provided your amplifier is stable at said impendence.

This link will provide you the possibilities based on whatever type of voice coils you have. Check the manual on your amplifier to find out which ratings it is stable at and what power it makes at those levels before attaching your speakers!

Building the enclosure with the proper airspace for the MTX would not leave enough room for the amplifier (even with the tall version). The Pioneer shallow sub requires quite a bit less airspace so you could go with the short version "all in one" and have room for the amp as well (maybe not the bigger Pioneer amp you posted but for sure the smaller one or the MTX you have)

How much airspace would you the short version "all in one" with the spot for either the MTX or Pioneer amp have? What is the mounting depth for this enclosure? and how deep is the amp rack? What would the pricing be for the short version?

 

I usually go with Pioneers recommendation of .45 for the shallow 10 unless asked to build it another specific size. Sub mounting depth max is about 5.75" and is totally dependent on basket shape/size and magnet shape/diameter. The depth of the amp rack varies according to airspace needed, amplifier used and depth of sub with max amp height about 2 3/4".

Not to intrude on the OP post, but have you looked at the RE Audio subs? I Got 2 10" RE rex Subs. They have a 5" mounting depth and sound REALLY good for entry level subs. I went with those along with the ARC Audio KS 500.1 Amp for my subs. It works really well for small places.

 

RE has always been a good manufacturer in my opinion. They were notorious for SPL with their XXX line from as far back as I can remember. The ARC amps are all top notch in my book, well designed, well manufactured, and produce a good clean sound. It appears like it'd be a nice little setup, although I'm more of a single woofer type of guy.
