Damn that thing is going to look like sh!t. I hope for the sake of the hood it's not permanent. Please tell me there's no drilling. It reminds me of those fake round chrome vent things you buy at your local auto parts shack or find on some ghetto mobile with 22" wheels trying to look like its vented from the sides.

Unless you cut a hole in the hood and mod it to your intake and use it as intended then all you're doing is posing. Which I suppose is perfect for hitting the malls.

Skip the skewp and go with vinyl

This entire thread is about me getting a scooped hood, painting it, getting the OEM scoop parts, and putting the whole hood on my truck. I set the OEM scoop on there as a joke.

Shop update:. Hood is painted and cleared, it's been cooler here with 80%+ humidity, so another 2-3 days to cure/sand/buff. Tentatively getting hood installed Thursday.

Just got my hood in the mail today, so you're a few days ahead of me. As a results - I have a few questions:
1 - The wiper fluid nozzles are attached to the hood. Were they hard to take off?
2 - Are you spray matching your fenders? I'm getting mixed opinions of whether i should do that or not.
3 - Did you get instructions for the plastic scoop install? Mine came with rolls/strips of some kind and idk wtd with them.

I love the look of the skewp, but if I didn’t get the sport I wouldn’t pay for the skewped hood. I was a little ticked when I noticed it was just a mini parachute, but still love the look. I’m curious if anyone has modded it to make it functional

Don't really care for mine. Wouldn't bother to add it if I had the OR hood. BUT there has to be a way to make it functional. At least with an LED bar or a way to open it when needing extra airflow?

I've definitely seen people on here stick a lightbar inside their skewp.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/light-bar-in-hood-scoop.545621/

I'm considering doing it as well. I just don't love the look of being able to see the lightbar when not in use. I wonder if I could add something like a film to make it darker - yet still bright when needed.

Maybe if you could fit the Rigid Midnight edition lights in there...

I think @tonered opened his up...

There's been endless debates on here as to whether the engine bay "benefits" from an open scoop... so probably not worth getting into that debate here.

    Yes, I did.

Who knows if there are any benefits. Someone noted that Toyota studied an open skewp and ditched it because it had a negative effect on cooling, but we don't know what they studied. In my case, I was getting large splashes coming from the ends of the skewp hitting the windshield right in my line of sight. Opening up the skewp fixed that. So, semi-functional.:rofl:

Since, I painted that orange clip black, though it was never really noticeable.

So did you just cut out the back of the plastic insert? Any issues with it?

Yes. The black part only. Three cuts. One on each side, and one across the bottom. Zero issues, plus the benefits I noted. If you have ever come out of a car wash with soap streaming back along the hood, well, this will fix that also.

Hahaha! I think that is a complement. :D

Just a dremel and a shaky hand.

Good to know and thanks for the insight! I may give this a shot as I don’t like that it’s just an air/water catcher right now.

I have a Barcelona red sport hood with the scoop painted matte black that will be up for sale shortly. Trading in my 2016 TRD OR at the end of the month. I purchased the sport hood about 1.5 years ago. The hood is in mint condition. I live in Rhode Island. Not willing to ship. I'm sure someone in New England will want this.

Please let me who is interested and we can work something out.
