1st Gen Rock Sliders?

Hey guys, I have searched the TW site and am having an issue finding a company that makes 1st gen rock sliders. I like the N-fabs but they don't make them for 1st, or don't make them anymore. Also, they need to be legit sliders, not some cheapies. I want something that will support the weight of the truck. Preferably bolt-ons. Thanks.

I really liked them because it's a "kit" that comes with the standoffs and braces separate so you can set the width and angle to your liking.

Mine were like $250 for DOM tubing (shipping was like $80 iirc)

That right there limits your options by a lot, as its very hard to make a 100% bolt on setup for 1st gens. And most of those so called "bolt ons" still require drilling. I ended up building some myself for way cheaper than any company sold them for. But it was a big hassle, and in the end I still wasnt 100% satisfied so I sold them after a year.

 

I went with the same sliders for mine. @jbrandt, do you have a write up? I've been going over the installation instructions and still have a few questions. Any more pics/info on how you did the install?

 

I bought my bolt-on sliders from CBI. Weren't cheap, but were exactly what I wanted, and I am 100% happy with them.

Yessir, they were! Used my floor-jack, (centered with a 2x4 about 3' long) and just pushed them up in there after they were positioned exactly where I wanted them. Took me a total of about 1 hour to put them on. The passenger side took about 10 minutes, but the driver's side has a LOT more crap up in there to watch out for so you don't pinch anything (fuel-line, brake-line, etc).

 

What questions? I'll do my best to answer them.

I don't really have a build thread. But here's the jist.

Mock everything up, and mock it up again. Even with my small under powered welder, mocking everything up still took longer than actually welding it.

I think I used the #1 (far front) and the #3 support tubes with the 1/4" plates clamped to get everything set the way I wanted it. I ended up taking about an inch off the width (each side) for a narrower profile. The 1/4" plates ended up basically flush with the bottom of the frame, and the tubes weren't much higher. I think you can see in my other pic that I used a ratchet strap to hold it tight to the frame while adjusting the angles and tack welding it into place.

Measure 3-4 times, then cut a little long. It's easier to grind off a little material than to add some back on, lol...

DON'T weld the plates to the frame until the very end.

Here's a pic I have of one side mostly assembled. I haven't welded the gussets on yet.

 

I like the CBIs as well but man, they are pricey. I also like the weld on ones from 4xinnovations but I am not a welder.

 

I bought the bolt-on variety because I figured if I ever sold the truck, the new owner might want to remove them. Well, that and I REALLY didn't want to be welding on my brand-new frame! ;-)

Universal 4x4 has free shipping to HI every so often. I missed the most recent one since I have no mod money right now.

 

The more I look into it the more I think I'm going to have to go with weld-ons because I don't want to pay $1000 for bolt ons. Does anybody have experience with these from Universal 4x4?

Do you like them? They are kinda in the middle as far as pricing and they look good, I was considering them.

 

Demello makes first gen bolt ons. I have the heavy duty on a double cab and my friend has the lighter ones on an extra. The lighter ones stick out less.

They are fully bolt on. There is an optional 4th bolt that you would have to drill. I havent done that yet but probably will eventually.

Both sets look good.

 

Love em! They went on really easy. Took about 3 hours total to mock em up and zap them on. I'm not a fan of bolt on sliders.

I'm fortunate to live a couple hours away from All Pro. Was able to get them for $420 out the door, no shipping. (picked up)

They were absolutely the best, for the $, that I found. I just put them on, so I haven't beaten up on them... but I know a few people who have beaten on theirs and they tell me they are legit.
