I've poked around in this 18,000 post thread, and I can't seem to find any answer as to if running our trucks on FOB is risky, since they were designed to be Atkinson'd (if that's a word)....can anyone point towards more reading on this? I absolutely LOVE the truck on 87 base, but my inner teenager wants to feel even more power....

I haven't heard of anyone blowing their truck up yet...

Well, you're sort of in the wrong thread:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...anual-transmission-engine-ecu-reflash.515734/

Otherwise, the Atkinson cycle is simulated using VVTi-W. So in very simple terms, going FOB is just reprogramming the valve angles the exact same way that the engine was designed.

With my luck regarding this truck, I feel I'd be the first one.

I'm sure it is very safe, or we would have definitely heard about it on here!

Thanks, didn't realize this was primarily the auto thread. I guess I'm "watching" them both by accident....kind of like my neighbors....when they sleep....JUST KIDDING NSA.

This thread is about the development of the tune in general. There are separate AT and MT threads, though the AT thread is pretty much dead.

FOB was proposed and discussed in the MT thread.

Disconnecting the battery does not truly clear learned values. That just clears some short term stuff. Techstream or the new Flash manager is the ONLY way to clear values

Interesting. It seems to work pretty well for me when switching octane tunes. The learning seemed to stabilize in just a trip or two.

You will notice the short term memory clear, but the progressive learning remains.

The ECU has to be physically cleared and the battery doesn’t push a clearing code through it entirely

Out of pure curiosity, I will give that a go when I load the next tune, esp with the new functionality in FM.

With 04B13, I had the battery disconnected for over an hour, I noticed a subtle difference on the next drive.

    Never a DTC reset though.

Anytime I flash a new tune I clear values before flashing and it always drives and settles better.
