Why would that matter? Aren’t the engines assembled in Japan?

Even if not this leak is much more indicative of a casting defect than assembly mistakes

Nearly 2,500 engines are built each day at the Toyota plant, which has an annual production capacity of 710,000 engines. Toyota’s 3 millionth Alabama-made engine was produced in February 2014.

Here is a rundown on the plant and that 4 millionth engine:

    • The Huntsville plant has built 1 million 4-cylinder engines, 1.3 million V6 engines and 1.7 million V8 engines.
    • The engines go into seven Toyota vehicles built in North America: Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Sequoia, Tacoma, Tundra and Venza.
    • Place the 4 million engines front to back and they would stretch from Huntsville to Las Vegas.
    • The combined horsepower of 4 million engines reaches over 1 billion, which is enough output to launch 29 space shuttles.

Ah, thanks. Guess you’re right. Perhaps that’s why 4runners don’t have these problems

So Toyota Corporate came back to my dealer that they’re starting to see these trucks come up with this issue. There is no official TSB yet.

Toyota Corporate informed the dealer that it’s “only seeping” and it is “normal” for the engine.

Toyota Corporate is refusing to fix it.

    • 53,000 miles

    • 60,000 mile factory power train warranty

    • 7 year, 75,000 Mile Toyota Platinum Warranty.

At least my service manager let me know he disagrees and has never heard a reply that ridiculous, he let me know he took additional photos, submitting a report after he traces the dye.

I can’t believe this bullshit. TOYOTA STANCE (not the dealer) IS THAT AN ENGING LOSING OIL (not out the fucking drain plug) IS NORMAL.

A LEAKING FUCKING TIMING CHAIN COVER IS “NORMAL”.

With so many frames being replaced on the early 2nd generation, maybe the Toyota engineers designed them this way so eventually, the entire frame will be covered in oil and keep the frames from needing to be replaced because of corrosion.

That sounds like a bunch of crap. Don’t give up on it. That’s what they expect us to do. This is not the first time they do this. I had an issue with a couple of other Tacomas .. and they ended up coming up with a TSB ..
is just a matter of how many people will actually notice the problem before the warranty expires and complain about it.
    Good luck.

All of these photos here are for an engine oil leak coming through the timing cover. Sounds like you've got something else.

This timing chain cover oil leak would be covered on the 5 year/60,000 mile power train warranty correct?
