Yes you can run 4.10s in a sport diff. Im running them in my truck and i have the 8.4. Got the gears out of a 4cyl

 

Probably for the best. It sounds like those things are $600. I don't tow a lot with the FJ, but they say its beneficial for crawling control and fuel mileage.

 

Great, thanks. I'm debating right now, Ford 9" or try to stick with Toyota Diff and let the shop that set up the last diff fix it and possibly charge me out the ass.

Waiting on a quote from another fab shop for a full ruff stuff axle set up and maybe a couple other things on the truck I might as well fix while under the knife lol

 

I needed a new carrier when I went to 4:30 but that was from stock, when I ordered it, they told me that the carrier came in 2 basic configs, 3:91 and below or 3:91 and up, if you already have 4:56 you should be good to go since your carrier should have already been changed.

 

That's what I was thinking...Except It looks like the 4.56 gears are thicker to accommodate the 3.73 carrier whereas the 4.1 and 4.3 gears need the 3.91 carrier. We'll see what ends up happening. I'm starting to lean towards just putting a 9" in the rear and getting some other stuff done at the same time. Gotta bite the bullet at some point, right? Why keep bashing on the weaker Toyota axle.

 

Plus if I have a shop set it all up and do it, then that way if it fucks up I can go back to them and make them fix it. In my current situation I'm pretty sure the shop that set the gears up can just be like "they must have done something wrong during install" and walk away from it.

 

Still running fpr but I’m on the TRD injectors. 650’s are in the box.

To be fair though I thought there would be more work involved that I wasn't willing to put in at the time to reach said desired boost. Hahaha.

Oh hey, speaking of which the HPTuners thread and @Roostfactor inspired me to search other avenues of OE appearance mods so I am currently in the process of attempting to retrofit an OE intake off a Dual VVTi FJ Cruiser/ 4Runner intake to my rig. So far it is all fitting up with relative ease. I measured the air cleaner opening where the MAF is and I measured a good 3.5" which is exactly what is needed to get better GM/s out of the MAF. I have to go pick up a MAF for it though and then I can get to moving around the air pump and other items needed to fit it in the engine bay. More updates to come in the coming days!

Lucky. I got California emissions crap to deal with.

I'll probably do a write up on what is all needed once it is all ready and done. I plan to solder in the new Hitachi style harness and then loom and electrical tape it all OE style to make it look factory once I confirm it works good using the Tundra MAF parameters.

I have a full Tundra air cleaner assembly available with the MAF attached, 2 intake air boots, and 2 filters (one is K&N drop in style) for sale if someone wants to play with it.

Also I have been trying to locate a 2015 hilux air intake with the 4.0. They switched up intakes and it looks to be a pretty straight through tube to a flat panel filter.

 

Oh hey it's been done before! Sweet! Me personally I will be using the correct MAF needed to fit it and I will have to relocate the SAI air pump so there will be a few more steps involved in my version versus his. I will still document it most likely as for us who are 2012 and up in emissions states will want to know all the info for express style modding.

 

Good to hear! I thought maybe that thread could help you out. I think the dual vvti 4.0 setup will be a lot easier to obtain than the hilux intake.
