Taco Garage - Dashtop Multi-Mount (DMM) - Securely mount ANYTHING to your dash

Does this work with third gen? At 6'3" I could use the hell out of this!

Anyone have any issue with low speed rattling coming from the DDM plate/bezel area? I have the shortest ram mount possible + Hondo iPhone holder and that seems like enough leverage to cause a lot of bounce and rattle around 25 mph.

 

Recently switched the arkon to a tackform phone holder , and I’m having the same issues. Slight rattle and major bounce at low speeds.

 

This should NOT be happening, I want to fix it but I need to know what’s wrong, if you guys don’t mind, would you please try pulling off the dash and the ball to see if either of the ball r the DMM plates got loose somehow?

Just Checked. Everything is correctly installed, tight, and evenly torqued. It looks like the weight of the iPhone X, Hondo Perfect Squeeze, and 2" ram mount creates just enough leverage to flex that top bit of plastic causing a rattle and bounce at ≈25mph—slower and faster is fine. Unfortunately, I drive around town mostly... at 25mph. I'd imagine this would be much more pronounced with something heavier than an iPhone X.

 

Would a bracket attached to the radio bolts fix that?

Everything is tight and properly installed. The tackform is probably a little too heavy, I switched out the arkon because it started to vibrate from inside the unit itself (spring?) I have a Akron on the other side holding a iPad mini. No problems there.

 

Just my two cents;

I have tons of small items inside my truck that rattle, including the Arkon swivel mount from time to time. It doesn't really bother me, and it does not rattle ALL the time while driving just during bumpy roads and dirt trails and whatnot.

Usually I do not notice it because of the radio or music I am listening to, but it is something I do notice in the early stages of driving somewhere. Today I was paying attention to it because of what people recently said and you could easily notice it with radio/music low. I have a iPhone XS Max so its on the larger side of cell phones.

Before checking and re-tightening, all I did was angle my phone to a position with my swivel mount and rattle went away. If I left my phone (while on mount) in a straight vertical position, it would rattle on the bumpy dirt road I live on, but as soon as I angled it slightly up, down, left or right, the rattle went away. I am using the Taco Garage provided swivel mount.

Out in the boonies where I live my truck drivers on dirt roads; no car port or garage to protect my baby from the elements. When I begin my drive and leave my house, I have to drive up a dirt road to an actual paved road that takes me back to "civilization." The dirt road in maintained but does have some bumps and throughout that I hear my Arkon swivel mount rattle, but again as soon as I changed the angle ever slightly, most to all the rattle went away.

If I were to guess, its the ram ball / arkon mount causing the rattle and hopefully not the actual DMM mount/plates. I could be wrong..

I can't speak for everyone, but overall I am still really happy with my DMM. Though it can rattle a little in my set up, my phone is held tightly and secure and I get plenty of viewing angels to choose from without my phone slowly changing angles on me over time. I assumed I would deal with my phone slowly angling down because of its size/weight but holds it holds is position VERY WELL.

Sorry for the long message, but I am gonna be experimenting with a magnetic mount (non-wireless charge) and will compare the rattling when I get my stuff comes in this weekend, but before then I will look at my current set up and see what useful input I may find to share

 

Anybody have issues with a magnet not holding well? May not be a strong magnet on this particular mount. Mine holds well enough unless I hit bumps. Makes me want to fashion a small cradle plate to hold the phone at the bottom so it won't slide off.

Nothing to fault the DMM though. I love it.


Bonus: doubles as a knife holder

 

The magnetic wireless charger mount I use doesn't keep my phone as secure as I'd like, plus I have to position the phone just right to get it to fast charge. Only had it drop twice, though.

Installed my DMM today. First off, love it. Really impressed with how it’s made. Everything lined up perfect.
I got the magnet for my iPhone 8. I have been using a magnet and it holds great, so I expect no problems. I got the low profile mount for the iPad mini, but taped the metal to the back and tried it on the magnet. Seemed to hold great, so I think I’m going to try to trade it in for another magnet if @FreshMexicanTaco will let me.

I did want to share a little “hack” I did that I think others will love. I wasn’t crazy about the aluminum posts with everything else being black, so I used some 1/2” shrink tube which fits PERFECT. Cut it with a razor blade to size, and shrink it with a lighter.

 

I like how you "blacked out" the base of the ram posts. I appreciate not sacrificing a A/C slot with the DMM
