Has anyone tried pulling the 50 amp fuse for the secondary air pump? I just did and let it idle and no check engine light although I haven’t had a chance to drive it yet. Just figured that shutting it off completely would eliminate the possibility of it failing? Thanks for any and all opinions.

That won't work. The truck will want to run the pump on the next cold start up. It won't turn on, so you will get a CEL (s).

This is an old wives tale, the pump actually pumps fuel through it's internals (armature, brushes... All that) so as long as you still have fuel the pump is more than adequately cooled

So gas is running thru the motor..... Armature, brushes, etc. Sure it is. Ever seen brushes arc? I have but not running in gas. And I don't want to.

Hey, I was just about to post the same motor cut away that @Speedytech7 did. In lieu of that, the why it is OK to run fuel through the pump from Wikipedia:

Though electrical components (such as a fuel pump) can spark and ignite fuel vapors, liquid fuel will not explode (see flammability limit) and therefore submerging the pump in the tank is one of the safest places to put it.

I stand corrected. My apologies. I was thinking of a drill motor running in near dark and saw all the arc.
I'll sit down and STFU now.

That’s what I thought would happen but it didn’t. No CEL. So I drove it for a solid half hour. No CEL and truck seemed to have more power and more precise throttle response. then shut it off and while it was still warm fired it back up and went for a drive. CEL and trac off light came on but truck still ran great. I’m guessing it’s because it’s a manual that limp mode wasn’t pronounced. That pump should not exist. It’s a bullshit part that seems to be robbing our trucks of power even when it’s not in operation but Of course California law prevents it’s removal. :annoyed:
