Just got them mounted up today. No rubbing but pretty close at near full lock. Will definitely rub with compression. Pic shows tire proximity to the cab mount 003B8C74-324F-47AE-9741-108EAE53BE52.jpg

Looks good. If those are 17 x 9s it may be the reason it's so close to cab mount.

I took some measurements on the 275/80/17 MTRs. I really hope this size catches on. So far it requires less trimming than most of the common shorter fatter tires if you keep wheel width and offset within stock specs. I'll try to get trimming/clearance pictures tomorrow if the weather cooperates

Just about 34.75" tall on the wheel
    20190522_205511.jpg

    Tread is 8.5" wide
    20190522_205710_HDR.jpg

Just over 11" wide overall on a 7.5" wheel
    20190522_205908.jpg

About 33.75" tall @40 psi mounted on the vehicle
    20190522_210432.jpg

And side by side with a well worn 265/75/16 BFG. About 5/8" wider overall and same tread width.

No CMC yet. With SPC UCAs and 2.5" lift I was able to move the tire far enough forward that I can daily drive it without issues. To have a "good" alignment and get full articulation off road I will need it. Scheduled to be done Saturday.

Yeah they look the part- no regrets Tire seems to ride softer than the BFG's, it does have slight hum you would expect from a open tread pattern. A gentle pedal and using the taller tire to keep revs down doing 65 on the hyw -I can still get 16.5 to 18 MPG on my commute.

For those with ST Maxx in 255/85/16.... how do you like them? I’ve pretty much decided that’s what I’m going with when these junk stockers wear out. Just curious how they perform Dry/wet/snow/off-road

Well i came real close to pulling the trigger on new 255 85 16. But i stuck with the size i have because it has worked well for me, and i will continue to use the 16x8 level 8s i bought. Bought new 265 75 16 MTs. Down the line, i still may eventually try the 33s.

Waited for my stock size (245) KO2’s to wear down and a few years later finally pulled the trigger on a set of 255/85/16 Coopers..

There are hundreds of positive reviews on those tires on multiple threads. One is dedicated to the tire itself. Google "show off your st maxx tacomaworld"

Welp, that’s the tire I want next. But hadn’t nailed down which size yet. Thanks for your post! I’ll be going with 275/80s!

    Howdy y’all.

First things first, shout out @Boston10Taco for not raking me over the coals and coming through on a good deal.. months ago now

I just wanted to give my experience on 33’ tall skinnies with no lift. Hopefully this can help some other people with some of the questions I had prior to doing this.

I read, and read, and then read some more before pulling the trigger on the size 255/85/r16. You can read all you want, but until you get out there and do it yourself, on your own vehicle, you’ll never be 100% sure. The main reason was I didn’t want much to do with rubbing and cutting.

In hindsight, I had more problems with rim fitment, the first set of steelies I had didn’t clear the caliper, had to return, etc etc..

Some of the questions I had before finally pulling the trigger were..

Does it fit? Yes, pretty comfortably actually.

Does it rub? Yes, but barely and only on plastic, all things that can be negated with a jig saw, Dremel or some other minor tool. No CMC needed. The front mud flaps I took off before the install as that was almost guaranteed rub.

How noticeable is the road noise? It is noticeable but not off-putting at all. In fact, I personally love it. It sounds and feels more like a truck, certainly a beefier truck.

Is there a loss in power? Honestly, I can’t even tell. If there is, it’s negligible.

Do you get a lift/ more ground clearance? Of course! I don’t have the pre measurements pictures with factory tires but I do have post install pics/ measurements and it equaled out to just over an inch, under vehicle weight, exactly as expected.

Is poke achievable with this set up? Yes, -6 offset I couldn’t be happier with.

Overall impressions? Money well spent. I love it. Once I have a modest 3’’ lift on it, it’s sitting level, I’ll be done with ride height mods.

The tires are BFG KM2, 255/85/r16 and they are wrapped around an American Racing 23 rim, alloy, 16x8 with a -6 offset.

I’ve learned a lot from this forum and I’m just trying to keep good things coming to all.
    Hope this helps

Looks good! Glad it worked out. I like those wheels more than the steelies that you had to send back.
