Hahha. I looked at his face and progressive looking smug on his face. I know all this guy does is listen to bluegrass music and whispers in the mic while strumming his ukulele.

What the guy is saying is true, it's well documented on the 3rd gens. The oil drain back holes are too far forward and the top of the heads fill with oil. It's a car engine they stuck in a truck, it wasn't designed to climb 30* hills. I don't think he abused the truck

2nd gens do hills just fine

    You said

"It was built for off roading. Not rock crawling, sure, but it is definitely meant for off roading. Atleast the TRD OFF ROAD is."

I was just stating that even though the "off road" model is for off-roading, really any 4x4 can off road.

Oh ok, IDK what you meant by any 4x4. Some vehicle have 4x4 to avoid getting stuck while out at work Ex: 4x4 work trucks. On the other hand, some have them with off roading and getting dirty on mind.

    Am I missing something?

Toyota did fix his truck under warranty. In fact it appears it only went up to the regional level not even corporate. He never stated this on his web site. But it is in another thread.

“They investigated and believe it was hydrolocked, but couldn’t prove it was from outside water. Bent rod and blown cylinder. I’m pretty sure it was oil from the hill climb. They’re fixing it under warranty.”

I think 1/2 is being generous. I often get better mechanical truck advice on gun forums. How many "My rear yoke is showing rust after only 2 winters!" threads do we need. Or, "Toyota should replace my truck because it makes a whistle sound at 52-53mph". But I do believe there is evidence that we have a oil drain/return issue on steep inclines with these trucks. To what degree and if that design is shared between platforms is not known. We only have a few anecdotal stories to go by.

It's all good, I can see why that was a bit kryptic. But some trucks were designed to go faster than others when not on pavement, thats for sure.

If that's true, it's pretty shitty of him not to remove that website (or at least post an update there). He had a bad experience, but they made it right and he should acknowledge that rather than continuing to push business away from them...

I had a 2014 f250 with 4x4 and a rear locking diff. Not even all of the tacomas have a rear locking diff and that one did. That truck I can assure you wasn't meant for off roading. It had the ability to not get stuck when you go out to the ranch, but it wasn't made with off roading in mind.
