My main complaints about my 2014 Sport:

The rear view mirror was not self dimmed and no garage door opener; replaced with an aftermarket. There is a guy on TW who sells mirrors. The truck is pre-wired, but you got to dig the plug out of the headliner.

No lock on tailgate. Added a Pop-N-Lock to the tailgate.

Stock speakers and tweeter are the pits. Kept the head unit; replaced the speakers w Inifinty Kappa speakers that are ~96 db efficient so headunit power is not an issue. Note:I did sound deadening under the headliner, doors and rear wall.

The backup/reverse lights need to be replaced with something brighter.

Those are my complaints. Its a competent and surprisingly capable truck that has not broken down. I do keep up with the maintenance.

Did a fair amount of mods (lift & armor) and it handles green and blue trails. I have been on black trails but they were washed out greens & blues.

I have a 2014 TRD Off Road. It's been great, just rolled over 75,000 miles, I think.
Like was posted earlier. Roll down the windows, turn off the radio and listen as you drive slowly through parking lots, etc. They're good trucks if they haven't been abused.
If I had my choice to do over, I'd do the same thing I did. If you can find a '14 or '15, buy it.

Test out the 4wd. You could try 4 lo too, but it's kind of a pain in the ass to kick it in/out. Crank the front wheels to one direction, get out, check the CV boots and the steering parts. Make sure things look ok and no leaks.

Like the others who posted in this thread, there are really no mechanical gremlins specific to this year. Late model 2nd gens are among the most bullet proof vehicals you can buy today. I can nit pick the electronics, Toyota took out the temp/compass in 2014 and replaced it with a cheap sunglasses holder. Oh well.

It is fantastic. Pretty much nothing wrong with it. Only issue was a part of the driver's side door panel that the plastic weld had broken. But I bought the truck and fixed that with epoxy when I got home. I'll post some pics tomorrow! Glad to be back in a tacoma!

    Nice looking truck, congrats!!

    I put this in: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0096SFRRI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hardest part was tapping into the power wires in the overhead. And that really wasnt that hard. Basically, put the sensor in the grill, pull the wires thru the firewall with a coat hanger, then make their way up the a-pillar into the roof (need to remove a-pillar trim). This thread was handy: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2014-auto-dimming-mirror.296672
probably one of the best mods i have done since i literally use it every time i drive the truck.

Edit: also i wouldn't necessarily call this a hi-jack, could be good info for OP based on his original info request! :p

Steps have to stay, as the girlfriend is short and uses them to get into the truck.

Nothing major right now. Ordered a tri fold tonneau cover today.Gonna get a bedmat, weathertech floor liners and window vent visors. But that will probably be it until winter when I use my old 05 TRD OR wheels as winter wheels.

I won't be off roading in this. That's the reason I got the TRD sport. It's a pavement pounder.

Bed mat is a must with these slippery beds otherwise you have to strap anything and everything down. Then there’s the Weathertech/Huskyliner debate if you want to kill some time reading about it. Short answer is they both work to save the carpet. I am near the weathertech store in Bollingbrook so I went that route and it’s a neat store to visit too. My wife is short and has mobility issues so I had to add steps for her. In my case NFAB. Done a few of the free mods. I just like working on things but not spending heaps of money for looks. Some folks just can’t live without it but lifts can and do cause problems with these trucks. Good luck man!

Yeah, I had a bedmat in my 05 and will be getting one of the toyota ones. Where's a good place to get that from? I'm near bolingbrook too, Just outside Rockford, where you at? I'll be doing weathertechs since I've had them in my last 5 vehicles and love them. I'm not doing a lift as I don't want to deal with those issues.
