See a few different opinions across the board in regards to the LCE header for the 2.7. I’m curious if anyone with a 3rd gen like me has decided to do it and what the results were in terms of low end torque and bringing down the overall torque peak.

I plan to regear in the near future when going to 33s (maybe 35s) but in the meantime a little more low end grunt never hurt anyone.

    Thanks in advance.

I would save your money for a regear instead.

Money is already set aside for the regear, so that’s a non-issue. Simply curious who all has done it and felt a noticeable improvement low end speaking.

I recall a member on here recently reporting their LCE header rotted out very quickly. Not sure who it was

For what its worth, I had one on my 2nd gen 2.7 and loved it. Felt a moderate improvement over stock and it also gave the motor a little better of a sound. Re-gear will yeild the best results, but since you have that already planned out for, the header will be a good addition. For me, it was a fairly straightforward install as well with very little knuckle busting or wrench throwing

Right on, appreciate the feedback. I'm feeling confident it's worth it the more I read.

Thanks man! Exactly what I was looking for. 10+ hp & low end torque is worth it to me.

Yea id definitely say 10-15 MAX but its noticeable for sure. When I owned the truck I was living in the mountains and had a really steep driveway that required me to have a running start and be on the gas pretty hard until the top.. after the header install it wasnt nearly as much of an ordeal (still had to be in first and moving but not yeeting my way up the hill like a redneck)

I'm running a Doug Thorley Tri Y header on 02 Pre Runner with a 2.7 4cyl and noticed a definite increase in hp and tq

Plus it looks good with the nickle plated ceramic coating

Installed on a 2017. Definitely worth it. Made overall driveability better. Improvement all across powerband but mostly felt improvement low to mid. There’s a mountain pass that I drive and with an up size in tires, truck seemed topped out going 80mph. With the header, there was more pull after 80mph.

Nice guess but it is on the I15 going to Vegas. It's literally called "Mountain Pass". I drive that way at least twice a month and hard to do 80 on the Cajon pass as it's always traffic during the time I drive.

That's good to know. I have KO's in 265 75 16 and it's honestly not THAT bad, but needs to be peppier. Holds fine at 75mph on a grade on the freeway and will event grunt forward a little.

aha that reminds of a recent experience I had up a buddies driveway. Not in my Taco, but his 08 2.7. That's definitely worth the pricetag of the header though in my eyes. That + regearing with 33's should keep it feeling responsive enough. I'm not disappointed by any means now - probably because I didn't buy the truck for power.

Definitely an improvement, no question... but they have had QC issues that are concerning. The rusting that has already been mentioned and I believe the bend angle on the flange end.

Mine has been installed over 2 years with no issues so far. I added a few bits of armor so performance increases were short lived for me.

Would buy again if it rusted out. Context, I'm already over 105k miles, screw it... a few years goes a long way with me.

I've heard of that was well with the rusting, but on the same token, i've heard plenty with no issues and excellent quality. I guess i'll find out lol.

Just so you know I only had mine on for a few months and when I took it off, I noticed the ceramic coating started flaking off already but no rust. Wasn't a big deal as it's stainless steel but I did ask LCE about heat before buying it and they said the ceramic coating actually was about equal to the stock with the heatshield.

Fitment was a little off on the bottom flange so make sure you line it up before tightening the bolts.

Did it take a few tanks for the ecu to get used to the headers? I've it can take a few weeks for it to settle. Wonder if an ecu flash would be helpful since i'm having the dealer do it anyways. I could do it myself, but I don't have the time (or patience) right now in the 100 degree heat in Sacramento after 12 hour days.
