original wanted 265/75R16 tires on stock oem rim.....was told i can also run 255/85R16 without a lift? saw some blogs with different opinions anyone here running these and how does it ride? and do you really get 3" more height? just tires alone? without any rubbing?

The gyst of things: stock offset/width wheels on stock height and no mud flaps = no rub. I didn’t need an alignment but maybe one or two people did. The top of the tire lightly scrubs the top of the front wheel wells if you bounce the truck over bumps just right where it bottoms out the suspension, but that’s rare and avoidable.

I4 may react to the additional weight a little sluggishly. I felt a difference on the v6.

I say do it. Thiccc sidewall life.

I have an 18 off road...but I love the tires(I went with coopers) and have had zero rubbing and have stuffed all 4 tires pretty hard so far...but however much bigger the tire is than what your on now youll only really get half that in ground clearance/overall height

so a 255/85R16 will get me 1.5 inch overall height over 265/75R16...with no rubbing issues at all?

I also am not sure if I sit higher than you because of the TRD OR vs the sr...im not positive on the difference between the two

no, just removed because I wanted to see the difference on/off road....nothing to do with the tires...just figured it would effect my opinion on how the tires changed the ride

255s will fit no prob but that 2.7 will be a dog will them. It’s a heavy tire and I noticed a drastic loss in power with the 3.5

My old 2004 had a Fabtech 3 inch lift and I ran 285 75 R16 and I had to change the gears at the rear

Just realize going to 33's not only adds considerable weight, but also changes the final drive ratio. Your truck will feel very very sluggish. If you are going to remain with stock gearing, I would stick with 32's.

op so you are aware , theres a lot of guys on here who fit a 255 85 16 without lift . I run 255 85 16s with a 3 inch low range off road lift , NO I could not fit the 255 85 16s stock , I hit the front wheel well and front bumper hard didn't fit at all on my 2017 4x4 access cab 4 cylinder utility cab every Tacoma is different most guys do fit them like I said I did not , also you will be fine with the 4cylinder I also have a automatic . I never turn off the ect button and drive mostly hilly terrain without issue with a bed full of chainsaws straps chains and lvl beam samples and I beam samples all day is it a racecar nnnooooo , but it gets the job done all day with 18.7 mpgs , I couldn't be happier with the truck
