I never use the Qi pad...Ever.
Got my anytime cam wiring and camera, but use my BSM and Parking sensors/switches, just figured I'd pull and unplug the switch and use the anytime cam switch and accompanying wiring.

Figured I'd see if anyone has done to this in general.

    Thanks in advance,
    Greg

Few ways to do it. Started at the radio bezel. Most things pull out from tabs. Just be careful and unplug connectors. Anything attached to a screen, don't put too much pressure so you don't crack any LCD's. Once that's out and only the bottom row with buttons remains, just reach back press the tab and push it out. Can also remove the whole thing. There's actually a post about it and I can't find it. This was the closest to it I could find.

Some of the front camera anytime mod threads will work as well.

I'm curious why the Qi charger needs a toggle switch anyways. What would it hurt if it is on whenever the truck is on?

Good thinking for getting switch real estate back.

I think it's mostly camera buttons.

The toggle switch is there because while the charger is on, if you have any metallic stuff in that slot, it can heat it up real bad. In my truck, I put phone down there to "charge" once (I say charge, but it literally just stays at the same battery level), I hit a bump, it moved my phone off of the sweet spot and it heated it up to the point where it wouldn't function anymore and shut down. I'm assuming it's just another way for Toyota to avoid being sued

Removing this was one of the first mods I did. I replaced it with a RJ-45 jack for my HAM radio mic.

I was annoyed by having the switch take up space for 3 years, then got an IPhone X with wireless charging and now I love the feature, and it works perfectly. So consider if you might use it in the future.

I have a S8+ that has wireless charging, these wireless qi chargers don't charge worth a hoot, the wife and I figured that out within the test driving stage of our Taco purchasing phase last year just before buying mine.
But glad you find it useful.

I think removing the cubby light would be worthwhile while working on the camera mod.

Works very well with the iPhone X. Maybe be Samsung’s charging is less reliable or slower. Yes, the charge rate is slower than a 1 or 2A charger with cable but it’s easy.

It's because it doesn't support the super fast rapid wireless charging. iPhone X calls it "rapid charge", but it's limited by the phone. So rapid charge or standard, it will just read as it works.
Compared to a Pixel 3, Pixel rapid charge is rapid charge. If you put it on a rapid charger made for the Pixel, it will eat it all up. But on a weaker Qi pad like the built in one, it's like nothing.

I was going to swap out the Qi switch for an RJ45 switch for a Midland radio mic. Is there anything specific I need to do when unplugging the Qi switch so the power to the Qi wireless "charging" doesn't inadvertently power on? Or is simply just unplugging the Qi switch enough?
